Barclay scares me. I've read so many horror stories. Think I will scratch them off my wish list. Too finicky for my taste.
For what it's worth, I opened quite a few new accounts after my Ring (4), and kept my balances manageable (overall less than 2% UTIL) and Barclays didn't touch my account. I actually love my Ring. I'll probably app for the AF Arrival at the end of the year.

IMO forget about Barclays and move on to a more stable issuer. Barclays is on my BL, I will never have a card from them even though they have bombarded my mailbox with offers for the last 1.5 yrs, I dont even read them, they get torched immediately.
It's like I've said before-I'd never app for anything Barclay's. And if I did-it would be after I got all the other cards I wanted and they were all reporting.

The Arrival was actually on my wish list. But all these horror stories I read make me nervous. If i do decide to app it will be the absolutely last card I get!

There are too many other factors on why they may have closed your account.... carrying 75% of the credit limit for several months and paying the min payment would probably scare a few lenders off .... combine that with several inquires and you hit the daily double. It's a sign of struggle to most lenders.
I have no complaints about Barclay's. They make tracking rewards points very easy with their itemized feature, and now they offer free TU FICO. Signup bonus was credited without delay. I have not apped for any card since I've had the card, but that's not out of fear of closure, just part of my overall credit plan.

My experience with Barclays has been pretty good, tbh. Bear in mind, since rebuilding I have not carried a balance on ANY cards. Barclays was my rebuilding card. I started with an Apple Financing at $1200, used it, PIF. Then I switched to Capital One and sock drawered Barclays for about a year! When I decided to use them again, I was travelling and called them to put in a travel note. I asked for a credit line increased and they bumped it to 2k. Then I decided to close the Financing and get the Rewards. I got another cli on the Financing (up to 4k) and transferred that credit line to the Rewards. Then a month ago they bumped it again to 6k.
Like I said, I have not carried a balance with them or anyone else since I started rebuilding in 2011. I have always made my payments on time, and my utilization is usually around 8-10%. I also do not apply for credit cards or increases, so my inquiries are almost non-existent, which is a far cry of how I was when I first came here, lol. I was cah-razy about applying back then. I have gone on an app spree while a customer with them (in fact, it was during a time I had the card on hiatus) but my "spree" consisted of 2 or 3 applications, I believe.
I very rarely, if ever have to call in to customer service, so I can't really comment on that. Although, when I did apply for the Rewards card there was an error in the system, and they had to "build" my account with me on the phone. Then the rep overnighted my card for free, so that was pretty sweet.
It sucks there are so many horror stories with barclays, but I like them.

I might try recon or but wouldn't waste an inquiry.
I'm in that boat and they were on my next spree. This has been an eye-opener. Good point... *scratch*
