Is there any difference that you can see between WF cell phone coverage up to $600 and the Uber CC cell phone coverage up to $600 as well? Both require you to pay you cell bill to get coverage. Are they esentially using the same insurance company to provide this coverage as they pretty much seem identical. I know NFCU offers cell phone I believe up to $600 as well on the MC version. Any insight on this. As have the Iphone X and don't really feel like paying carrier cell phone insurance as feel like it is a waste of money at say 10 a month plus(figure 24 months as 10 is another 240 for cell phone insurance) $200 for the deductible where-as at least from what I can see the CC offers a $25 deductible granted up to only 600, not 1k. At same time the difference between 25 deductible and 200 deductible is 175 so really that 600 become 775$ so really only $225 difference(if you take about 24x10 at 240 that wipe out the 225 difference and then some) Seems like assuming 24 months you come out ahead on the CC offer if one had to replace the phone if you dont have any mishaps then you really come out ahead by 240 in no insurance coverage payments per month.. Thoughts? Am I looking at this wrong? Have the UBER card and also have NFCU, but if Wells offered something huge I would consider that as well, but believe UBER does that exact same thing?
Thanks for anyone that has reallly researched this. Sure any CC will try to weasle out of this. Wish Amex offered this protection as I know I could trust them to honor a lost/damaged phone.
Here is a good comparison i found for cell phone insurance. I don't presetnly use any of them since I have 5x from my chase ink plus card, and I am in general pretty careful with my phone so don't really need the insurance. Also Chase ink preferred has cell phone insurance + 3x UR, which is a pretty nice option as well.
Well heres the article you can try and read and see if it helps you https://www.doctorofcredit.com/credit-card-cell-phone-insurance-compared-get-600-coverage-free/

Thanks very helpful.. It does appear that some of these cards probably do use the same 3rd party insurance company. I found the charts and more-so the comments posted by users that have used it to be valuable. It appers I am safe with any card I use whether it is Uber/NFCU or even wells, but feel no need to apply just for that card to get cell phone insurance other than the possible 200 sub lol.
Good article and template, thx for posting!
Bummer in difference between NFCU V and MC 😝

It’s not really a difference between the NFCU visa and mastercards in that the MC has the cell phone coverage - it’s that this is something that Mastercard seems to offer thru their network of issuers that Visa doesn’t.. TMG also offers it on the cards that they issue as well
Still makes no sense as they are using as stated earlier in the thread a 3rd party insurance company being all of the card issuers and the Uber card which is a Visa and and wells fargo cards inlucde this which some are visas, so I doubt MC really plays a role in this as very few cards as I am sure you know offer this protection. So kinda confused why the Visa/MC makes a difference on the coverage amount when NFCU is paying a 3rd party vendor to handle these claims and they are certainly big enough to set the terms if this party wants their business
Does anyone know if NFCU coverage is still provided if the cardholder is paying the bill, but the wireless provider account is in their spouse’s name?

One thing to consider when doing your math is, if you break your phone to the point it needs replacing, the cost to replace an iphone isn't the full retail price of it. Apple has a replacement program that allows you to turn in your broken phone and you get another one for a lot less than the full retail cost. If you take a look at the link below, you can see that the full replacement of your phone would cost you $549. So the $600 coverage from the credit card would be just about enough. Basically, you'd get $575 for coverage after your $25 deductible. If you add sales tax, you may be a few bucks in the hole, but it's not much at all.
Now, if your phone is stolen or you lose it, that's another story. Your out-of-pocket cost would certainly be higher, but the insurance plans from carriers are a total ripoff.

Those prices are for out-of-warranty repairs or for people without AppleCare+
