CC Convo with DF

Background: DF's scores generally range 755-775.  Mine are in the low to mid 700s, partially because of my AU status on some of her accounts.

Tonight, a commercial for the Amex Gold Card came on TV.

DF: Is that a hard card to get?

Me: Not really.  Not easy, but not that hard either.  Kind of medium hard.

DF: Do you think I could get it?

Me: Yeah, but I don't think you want one.  It's a charge card.  Not a credit card.

DF: What's the difference?

Me: You can't carry a balance.  You have to pay it in full every month.

DF: What's the point of that?  I mean, I know you get perks and stuff, but the whole point of a credit card is to be able to buy stuff you can't afford.

Me: (stunned silence)

Yeah, it was.  That was kind of the point. LOL.

Her scores are way out of my league, but she makes a comment like that. Smiley Happy

I was laughing before I could even get to the end, but the stunned silence really had me going.

Re: CC Convo with DF

LOL!

But seriously, I have a friend going through a divorce, who's never dealt with money at all. She's in her late 30s. We were talking about credit and interest rates and stuff like that, and she said, "Oh, if you have a better credit rating you get a lower interest rate?"

And SHE was serious.

Re: CC Convo with DF

Just to clarify, I'm not making fun of her, or her naivete in this area.  I just think it's kind of funny how we all endlessly tweak our scores and learn all about the ins and outs of FICO scoring, and there she is with reports and scores I am a bit envious of, yet not knowing the first thing about "too many accounts with balances" or "PIF before the statement date."  Maybe a little wide-eyed innocence (and consistently paying on time) can be good sometimes.

Oh, dear. lol.  You ARE still DF's together, I hope?!  Smiley Very Happy (rhetorical question!!)

I did read on down, and I hear ya - I wish I were still that innocent and - better yet - able to have scores like hers!!

I'm STILL trying shake the notion that cc's were/are supposed to be for things you can't PIF right now but could successfully pay off over time.
