CLI question

Some of the banks set a certain time when you can get CLI (for instance, for my USBANK Visa it is once per 6mo). If I ask for a CLI and get denied for any reason, should I wait another 6 mo before I ask for another one?

Yes. It would be my understanding that if you are declined for a requested CLI that the clock would be reset to zero.

Also, while it is "free" to ask, your requests are logged to your record. Asking too frequently may make you appear desperate and/or subject a subsequent reqest to additional scrutiny or less consideration. You don't want that to happen!

Re: CLI question

I got denied a CLI from State Farm due to inactivity on the account within the past 6 months.  I'm using it more often now, and will ask again in January if they don't increase it before then.

I have 6 cards am having to juggling each month.  I'm only using 5 for now.  I have Cap 1 in timeout until July 2010 for not giving me a CLI.

That would be six months from your last CLI, not your last request.  USBank - at least my branch - is very helpful in answering questions - so check with them if that's specifically who you're concerned with.  Some banks (i.e. BofA) are so twitchy that it makes one hesitate to ask anything - at least until their trigger finger relaxes a bit.

Yes, and I was specifically and conversely told by BofA that the clock was reset when a request was denied. I would be most careful when requesting any CLI's these days, let alone one "too soon" following a denial.
