I searched and found a $150 cash "coupon" for opening a Chase checking account so I think I'm going to do that tomorrow, and set up direct deposit for $250 a pay period to meet the $500 min requirement. I bank at NFCU, but it won't hurt to have another bank plus Chase is about 1.5 miles away and NFCU is about 1.5 hours away.

I recently got the Freedom and CSP, and been doing the research to try and maximize the possible rewards. I plan on going to the Chase branch and opening up an account. I know it's changed from when this thread started back in 2012, but there are still great benefits of having all 3 right (Freedom, CSP, checking)?
Depends on your definition of awesome! Adding checking impacts transactions on the Freedom, and not CSP. But basically means that Freedom earns 1.1UR per $ (and 5.5UR per $ in the 5% categories) This also means you use CSP only on travel and dining, where (after anniversary bonus) it earns 2.14 UR per $, as on all other spend it is 1.07, i.e. lower than Freedom.
So, is this awesome? If you value UR enough and redeem them in valuable ways, usually by transfer to partner programs, yes. If you basically redeem as cashback 1UR = $1, not so much. Many cards give more than 1.1c per $, so you would just use the Freedom in the 5% categories. And while that earns more than without checking, the cap is so low it doesn't, IMO, reach the level of awesome!
But if you use URs correctly (as you should if you pay an AF on CSP after the first year), yes, the 10% boost is very good.
