Charge away. They approved you that limit I see no harm in actually using it as you see fit as long as you're going to pay it off. If it'll give you a peace of mind call CS and let them know but I think it's unnecessary.
If you just got the card, I'd make a quick call and let them know. While your CL definitely can afford the charge, I've read stories of people who got their charging privileges suspended for unusual high activity upon account opening. It doesn't hurt to be cautious at first just to avoid the hassle of having to fix the issue. As you know, an ounce of prevention...
I was approved for 10K, the very first charge was over 9K from a travel agent in FOREIGN country without notify Chase, went through with no incident.

I was approved for a CSR card yesterday for $28k. At this time I am having some plumbing work done on my house and it’s $18200. I have the cash to pay but I want the points. If I put it on my card would it freak out the chase people? I’ll pay it off right after the charge I just don’t want to set off any red flags. Should I call them first as well. I have a Quicksilver with $31k and Amex Hilton at $20k limits both with 0% utilization exempt for what’s on after the new month which isn’t much so it’s not like I’m blowing up all my cards.
As you've only had the card a day, I would call to let them know. It would probably be ok, but better safe than sorry.
Once you've had the CSR a while and they see your spending and paying pattern, it should be fine to just run it.
I could go either way, depending on my view of how much effort it is to call vs the inconvenience if the charge is denied (and then having to call). The other factor is that getting a "Yes" from a CSR doesn't really mean that much.....
I would definitely call them. I had a $3k charge for an event at a restaurant declined the day after I received my card (and it was in the same area where I lived). I called to have the charge unblocked (had to go outside because we were in the basement, with no service) only to have the charge declined again because the customer service rep never unblocked the card like they said. Was afraid I wouldn't meet the bonus spend after that and ended up having the EO guarantee me the points if I somehow fell short (I didn't in the end).
