Cap 1 CLI increase question

Good morning-

I got an email this morning saying that if I make my payments on time for 5 months, my CL will go from $300 to $500. I'm putting about $900-$1000 through that card and paying it off as the charges appear (I carry a balance on another major card). Do you think that will be a hard and fast max or might it go higher? I'm mainly charging daycare ($200) and a tank of gas on it weekly, so that pretty much maxes it out.

Re: Cap 1 CLI increase question

I can't answer you 100% because I'm in the middle of my credit steps at the moment, but I have read that some people have gotten more than the initially stated amount.  I however, cant provide proof for that.  You can try to get a CLI prior to the steps program, but ymmv.  Many people on the boards have reported about getting a CLI via the luv button after the 3rd or 4th statement cuts.

Re: Cap 1 CLI increase question

Hit the CLI button after 3rd statement cuts, you will most likely get a $100 CLI. After 5 months payment, you should go to $750 instead of $500. At least that is how it happened with me.

Re: Cap 1 CLI increase question

I hadn't found MF yet when I got my Cap1. I do not remember getting a set amount that my card would increase with steps, but I do remember something saying I would get an increase.  I didn't know to ask for a CLI before the steps kicked in. I used my card (was the first in years, start of rebuild) heavily like you are talking about using it, and paid it off when I maxed it several times a month.

When my steps increase kicked in it went from 300 to 3300.

I don't they are handing out those types of increases much anymore. They have tighten the rein. My increase happened this month to $750. I was initially told it would go to $500, but by getting the $100 CLI, it went to $750.

Same here I went from 300$ to 400$ after 3 month and after my 5 statement cut ( a few days ago) I got bumped to 750$

Re: Cap 1 CLI increase question

I would love to get $750 instead of the $500 they mentioned on the first email. I got a CLI for $100 on my 4th statement. My credit steps CLI is supposed to be next week so will see.

Re: Cap 1 CLI increase question

Good luck!

My credit steps Cap1 started with the same $300 and after the few statements went up to the same $500.

Now 3yrs later, it still sat at $500.

I recently closed it.

Why pay an AF for a card not willing to grow with you?

Of course, YMMV.

Are you sure the email is legit?

Re: Cap 1 CLI increase question

Like others stated, after your 3rd statement request a CLI and you will probably get $100.  The credit steps increase is the minimum that you will get.

For example I started at $500 and the email said I would get $700.  Well at month 3 I requested CLI and got $100 increase to $600, then my credit steps ended up being another $500 so I'm now at $1,100.  Mind you, I was spending between $2,000-$3,000 a month on the card during that time and making multiple payments every month, so I'm sure that's why I got a bigger credit steps increase.

I was also able to PC from a platinum to quicksilver
