Re: Cap 1....Credit Steps???

Everyone's experiences with Capitol One credit cards is a far cry from what I have experienced.  Back years ago they gave me two 500 dollar limit cards.  I have paid on time since 2001 where they still have a August late of 30 days that sticks to my score like a tick.

I have called them and asked for credit line increase or to combine the two 500 dollar cards into one 1000 limit card.  Like I said, I have had these cards for years.  No lates since 2001.  They wouldn't increase or combine my cards.  I have paid them off and since I have learned that closing old accounts is not good they sit, two cards with 500 dollar limits.

When I called once to ask them to please drop that 2001 late payment they told me they don't have a record of it and it will drop off at the 7 year mark.  Plus I was talking to someone that it seemed they were in Madagascar or the Fiji IslandsWoman Mad

You can avoid the inter-continental phone nightmares by using the "backdoor" number...800-889-9939.

Re: Cap 1....Credit Steps???

Cap One Credit Steps

Step 1: Open an account somewhere else
Step 2: Transfer balances away from CapOne to new place
Step 3: If not an annual fee card, let it lie dormant in the sock drawer. If an AF card, kill it.
Step 4: Watch new account grow with you over time with nice CLIs that you weren't going to get so easily at CapOne
Step 5: Smile

Re: Cap 1....Credit Steps???

Does calling to ask for CLI result in a hard pull?

Ash, did you call the backdoor number when you were denied CLI?

Trying to decide if I should call or just wait...

Re: Cap 1....Credit Steps???

No hard pull...
Also I gave up on calling the back door for CLI's
I just kept logging in to monitor activity and I noticed they did the credit steps CLI yesterday on auto.

I called yesterday, was told they can drop APR or do CLI. I opted for lower APR. They dropped it 5%.

I called today 3 times to get a CLI. First 2 people denied me, 3 time guy went and checked. I was able to get a Senior something person. He came back saying he cannot, but I should be getting an auto CLI in a few weeks... So lets see what happens.

Congratulations Ash and to everyone else who got their increases!  I know you were waiting on that one.  Following Unknown E's advice, I got a special promotion CLI and then still got my CS increase after my 4th statement as well.  I do not know how often they do these increases, but hopefully there will also be one after 6 or 7 months.
