Cap One really that bad about CLI?

Is there absolutely nobody who has had no problems getting CLI if using the card properly? All i hear is how nobody gets a CLI, its kind of my concern maybe not on my Platinum Cap One, but the SONY card at least, I'd assume they would want to give me a higher limit on that one, since most good SONY products are over a grand.

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

My understanding is that the "entry level" Cap1 cards have (basically) a hard limit, more or less. I've seen exceptions, but I think most folks just move on to more "prime" cards with higher limits and close the Cap1 or keep it as a "toy" card.

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

I have gotten CLI on both of my Capital One cards. One is a platinum which auto increased from 500.00 to 5,500 (yes, a five K increase in one shot), and a no-hassle cash rewards that went from 750.00 to 2,250 on an auto CLI. I not sure why everyone says they are stingy. They have been generous with me and I have had a 30 day late in there.
Chase Southwest Airlines Signature Visa 18k, Wells Fargo Platinum Rewards 15.5k, Capital One Venture World MasterCard 8.5k, American Express PR Gold- NPSL, American Express Hilton Honors Surpass 8k, Home Depot 7k, Capital One Rewards 3.75k, Wells Fargo PLOC 10k. all 3 scores 735-740.

Not sure how u got 5.5k on a plat from cap1, there max on that card is around 1-1.5k even if ur score goes up.

That is the problem with Capital One very much like Orchard where they print and say this is a hard limit that can't be passed and then 1 out of 100,000 get an auto increase over the hard lines that we all "know" and hear about and we all scream LIAR LIAR... but it does happen... which makes it even more annoying I think because I get a $200 CLI after 6 months but I read someone else getting $5k.

and my friend got one of those "HARD" limit cards after BK.... he tried to close it and they increased it $3k on the spot which was $3k over the "Hard Limit" they had stated when he opened it.

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

I got two Cap1 cards, rewards and plat.  I got the rewards, it started at 500 and went to 750 six months later (think it was six).  At one year, nothing... so I apped the plat card, thought they would give me a better limit the second time around...  500 to start and 750 six months later (again I think it was six).  Well I was about to dump the rewards last dec when it turned two, but the statement that the AF was posted my CL went to 3750.  I was shocked!  The rewards card turns 3 this dec, I will see what happens...  Now the plat card turns 2 this jan, it is getting axed no matter what.  Why?  Well just for the sake of argument, if I wanted to get a venture or some other Cap1 prime card, I would not be able to because of their two card limit, so it is gone.

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

I just got the platinum card with a $2K limit. On my welcome package it says that if i pay my bills on time for five months, they will automatically increase it.

I think that's the STEPS program everyone talks about. I was in the STEPS program. I've had no CLIs since STEPS and i've had one of my accounts since 11/2008. Only reason I haven't closed it is that the APR is 7.12% which is few and far between with the exceptions of CUs

AMEX: $25,000, CSR: $10,000, Chase Priority Club: $1,500, Freedom: $5000, Freedom Unlimited: $1000, Discover: $21,000, BoA $11,000, WF Cash Wise: $5000

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

+1 to that. My cap one did give me the increase at six months, but then I was at their hard limit. After talking twice to cs reps and the third time requesting a supervisor, I was informed of the "hard limit". That means the card has no additional cli increases. The three P's are your best friend. Pay on time, Pay in full, and Patience. After grazing in the corral a while, you will then be able to head for the greener pastures.

Updated scores 3/7/21 TU 849, EQ 829, Ex 818 (all Fico scores) Remember the Three P's: Pay early in Full, Pay on Time, Patience
