Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

Cap1 has been pretty generous to me with auto CLIs.  I opened a Plat MC 6/2007 with a $500 CL (scores at the time were in the high 500s).  A few months later CL increased to $750.  Sometime in 2008, CL increased to $1500, and then in Nov. 2009 CL auto increased to $4750!

Chase, on the other hand, hasn't ever increased the limit on my Slate (former Wamu card opened in 5/2008).  In fact, when they took over the Wamu account Chase decreased my original limit of $1500 to $1200.

Cards: Amex BCE $9000 (9/2012), Citi Forward $8000 (6/2012), Discover More $7000 (5/2012), Chase Freedom $1200 (7/2008), Cap1 Platinum MC $4750 (7/2007)

FICO Scores: 753 TU (4/2013), 744 EX (9/2012), 713 EQ (8/2012)

I have gotten CLI on both of my Capital One cards. One is a platinum which auto increased from 500.00 to 5,500 (yes, a five K increase in one shot), and a no-hassle cash rewards that went from 750.00 to 2,250 on an auto CLI. I not sure why everyone says they are stingy. They have been generous with me and I have had a 30 day late in there.

Do you think it is because you have another non CapOne card?  I have heard they will start treating you like a customer when you get another account with a good limit.

It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.....
Always follow these rules: Only take a HP for a new account. Always use the best rewards card for that reward category. Don't close a card unless you know you really should. Never use more than 35% of a credit limit. Recon as much and as best you can. Use the introductory period to the best advantage. Get the signup bonus. Whenever possible PIF or balance transfer so you pay less in interest. Never give an excellent rating when it is actually the norm. Always look for a discount as more is always better.
Always accept candy from strangers because they have the best candy or from people you know have good candy.

Not sure how u got 5.5k on a plat from cap1, there max on that card is around 1-1.5k even if ur score goes up.

They can change the account terms.  I was told by a rep that the highest mine could go is to $3,500.  I just got a card with another lender for $2,500, let's see if that has any effect on whether they will increase my limit.

Last year mine went from $1400 -> $6400. I've had the card since 1999 and that's the only CLI I had on it. Nice one, though. Smiley Happy

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

I filed BK is 8/04, Cap1 offered me platinum visa in 9/04 with 1500 CL. On 1/06 they offered me paltinum MC with 5000. Maybe I was lucky?

Have never had a late payment with them or a CLI.

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

Well  I hope they are upping the limits on the Platinum, were u in the steps program when you got the card?  Even if this card max's out around 5k I would be looking to keep it for at least the next 5 years.

Re: Cap One really that bad about CLI?

I think for the most part they aren't bad for rebuilding.  They were the 1st card to approve me post-BK.  I filed in 9/04 and I think I got the card in Nov 2005 or Nov 2006..I just closed the card a week ago. It had a low limit, started at 750 CL I think in 2008 or so they increased it to $1350, it had an AF of either $19 or $39 I can't remember.  I felt for me I have moved on to better cards, I closed it and my BBRZMC, which is now C1, it had an $2000 CL but a $39 AF and I had an old HSBC, now C1 also card with a $300 CL. It was one a few years ago that the limit was much higher but when HSBC was slashing all those limits it was cut..

Like I said they all served their purpose, I have been able to get bigger and better cards since then and I don't regret my decision to close any of them..

Good Luck on your journey!!
