CapOne becoming obsolete?

When my rebuilding began CapOne QS1 was one of my 1st cards to get, it was very exciting to get a reward card that could grow! Last year it was talk of the credit town. Got PCed to QS with no AF that was nice, CLI that was also nice till today!

The reward for 1.5% seems to be too common now, almost every major CC co has one now! The Venture never seemed to be the best travel card. So what now? There are too many cards out there that offer 2% or more for selected categories with no AF.

Therefore CapOne products are becoming obsolete for average credit scores! Their interest rate is as high as Subprime cards which makes me think that's all they going for!

I'm keeping mine open not for use but for something that they may offer in the future. As of now I have no more use for them and they are not offering anything worthy of usage.

My scores are about 680s so that's about average and seeing way too many cards are more useful than old QS or Venture!

What is in my wallet? Not CapOne. Not anymore!

Re: CapOne becoming obsolete?

If you find a product or lender no longer meets your needs, there are lots of choices out there.  That said, everyone's credit needs vary.   For me, I don't have a large general spend, and I prefer rewards that post and can be redeemed quickly.   I prefer my QS to my Citi DC for that very reason.

Re: CapOne becoming obsolete?

I love Capital One - not just back when I was rebuilding - but today as well. And sure, to some the Venture might not be considered a great travel card, but for those of us who aren't into the points game yet, the Venture works just fine. Now it looks like everyone is taking Cap1's Quicksilver idea with the 1.5% cashback (think Chase's FU, and Barclay's Cash Forward), so Cap1 may have to come up with something new in the future - but when they do, I'll be right there with them. In my opinion, Cap1 will always be in my wallet.

I agree they have been good to me. The QS will always be a solid card for me.

Re: CapOne becoming obsolete?

If cap one no longer fits your needs by all means move along. However they are very useful for many many people even people with top scores that have other major cards. They are nowhere near obsolete as a whole and will be very useful for years to come. Congrats on your successes.

Re: CapOne becoming obsolete?

No, I don't think they'll ever be obsolete.  I love my QS as a general spend card. Capital One gives people a chance when many other companies won't. They are also not as quick to AA as some other companies. I definitely have a little bit of loyalty to them for giving me my 5k QS card last year with a mid 600s score after going through tough financial times. To see that card grow to 15k in 9 short months is amazing to me. Outside of major negative changes, I'm with them for the long haul!

Re: CapOne becoming obsolete?

CapOne may not be the best for some...but fore me, they're a very solid lender who approves across the scoring spectrum.  They tend not to be as bothered by the way you use your card like some other lenders can be.  Do they offer the best product...well that's subjective, but again, to me, they're a very solid lender and for the forseeable future, they'll have a place in my wallet.
