This is the reason I keep getting on the card that was a Platinum $5k limit that was CLD to $700 several years ago then PCd to QS and won't budge even though my other Capital One QS just received a $3k auto CLI.  If anyone can translate that'd be great because I don't see this reason on their "reasons for denial" section:

"A credit limit increase is currently not available upon request because Capital One is evaluating account activity at assigned credit limits."

To me it sounds like whatever caused your CLD on the Platinum card a few years ago caused that card to be locked at certain limit, and is not eligible for cli unless they decide to do one on their own (which seems unlikely that will happen if it's been a few years already). For some reason certain Capital One cards get locked at low limits and never grow. If you're able to get other cards from them (and CLIs on the other cards) I would focus on those for now.

That actually sounds like a very reasonable explanation.  I was young and dumb and ran up that $5k quick and would make payments and use it up again.  Then I got enough on a tax return (or maybe it was a student loan, bleh) to pay the whole thing off and it dropped to $700.  I will definitely focus on getting the other QS and my new Venture One to grow.

That's crazy. I'll never understand why some ccc decrease a person's limit just because they use the limit that was given to them, and/or they make a large payment. I read enough stories on here about balance chasing because of large balances, and CLDs due to large payments, but I'll never understand why they do that. I can see if the person was late before, or only paid the minimum for an extended period of time, but in your case I just don't understand the reason behind the CLD. Oh well, at least you have a QS and Venture One that should grow with you.

Re: Capital One CLI Denial Reasons

Ha! So I recently hit the luv button and denied $750cli. Called the EO asked for $5k on 6/2. Called again since I never heard nothing and was told I was denied and a letter will be sent. Very frustrated to say the least since I always PIF. So decided to hit the luv button again just fkt kicks and BOOM!! They gave me $5k CLI lol. Sitting nicely at 15k now. I will never understand credit card companies

Re: Capital One CLI Denial Reasons

My 2nd Capital One is the lowest credit limit of any card. It is also one of the major reasons I was applied to various banks.

The 1.5% Cash Back is nice. Obtained about $40 the two months (month and a half) I actually used it. Huge issue was payment holds twice a week. Having a low limit required 1-2 payments a week. My existing secured account has various 1K-2K payment history.

As implied above they do not cross reference accounts. Thus making the new card nearly impossible to use.

I applied (before knowing the system) for a CLI the first month. Got a letter stating it will be increased 50% automatically after 5 statements.

I love the advice above and looking forward to writing that letter to EO.

Re: Capital One CLI Denial Reasons

So I said I would update when I tried for a CLI again on my Venture card (after I was denied 3 weeks ago). I tried today and was approved for 3k increase. I have had the card for 2 months and 18 days (but I have had 3 statements cut already).

Way to go!  This tripped me out because I just emailed the EO about the card I haven't been able to get a CLI on after several attempts and then I get an email saying there's a new response in this thread Smiley LOL
