My first card opened was a C1 Quicksilver with a limit of $4500. I took it out of dormant status and put spend on it for two statement cycles and requested a CLI. First time it was $400, two weeks later it was $500. I took the $500 offer to get to $5000 to PC to the Venture Card. Eventually I would like the VentureX , but I need a $10k CL to product change to VentureX. As I understand C1 only does a manual CLI every 6 months. However, does anyone know if this applies to the automatic ones? My plan is to throw everything at this Venture card and report a high utilization in an attempt to trigger the automatic CLI. Am I crazy? I know C1 can be finnicky, but theres not a snowballs chance in hell I would be approved for the C1 VX outright. If my old QS was a mastercard I would have PCd to the Savor One and waited, but since it was a VISA it seemed very unlikely that would ever be possible. Any advice on the automatic CLI is appreciated. Thanks!

what makes you think your profile doesn't support Venture X? you have 2 long standing cards with high-ish limits, 1 year with all of those big cards you opened might be enough in 12 months time.
Your income is certainly high enough. Your app spree recently may mean it's not today, but I wouldn't be surprised if you could easily be approved sometime in the future.
I wouldn't take good spend and throw it down the Cap1 rabbit hole when you can put that spend towards maximum rewards and let time get you not only a Venture X, but a SUB as well.
Check your Pre-Approval tool, what does it say?

I should say I would need to garden for a time. Probably need to get down to roughly 0/12 and 4/24 to have a chance at being approved.

True. A lot of good bonuses going around recently.

I would honestly prefer to skip the SUB on the VX and just PC. Would be nice to have my oldest card as a usable one. Plus C1 always pulls all bureaus.

Ironically the preapproval portal appears down...

Went through this time but only showing the Platinum Secured and Quicksilver Secured. Probably not the best look when I put looking for "Travel rewards and welcome offer".
Experian as of 4/1/2023 - 771
Equifax as of 4/1/2023 - 796
TansUnion as of 4/1/2023- 781

yeah that's the uh, "We're just not that into you right now" response. Likely due to recent accounts.
I imagine your profile was clean when you applied for your quicksilver, it would certainly be possible to CLI that card all the way to 10k, I would imagine at least 2-3k spend per month at a minimum is where you would want to be at, if not more.
No guarantees though, and I don't think it would be worth it, but not impossible. Maybe others will chime in on their thoughts.

Yeah, but not unexpected to be fair. It was, I don't think I am bucketed but hard to tell sometimes. I do question whether its worth it, but a lot of the spend going on the card is general spend in the 2x category. Only thing I have been neglecting is moving some dining spend from the Gold card. I appreciate your help and input!
IMHO, CAP 1 really doesn't know what it wants to be when it grows up. Many years ago, they expanded into Prime territory but really don't seem to feel completely comfortable there. Just my opinion.
I appreciate the chance they gave me when my rebuild was new. I won't forget that. But is this a CC company that will grow with me? IMHO, no. I'm OK with that.

Thank you for your input. I want to give them a chance now that they have some competitive cards, but they make certain things difficult. I assume your QS has been in the socks drawer?

Ironically in a year OP probably still won't get his VentureX because his scores will be too high by then...And the reasons they give for the denial will make even less sense than they do now. The juice isn't worth the squeeze IMHO.
Capital One definitely has "a type" of customer they prefer and they have told me in no uncertain terms I'm not in that group any longer. Thankfully.
Between April 7th and 9th I closed both my Cap1 accounts totaling over 17k worth of good credit history because I'm not going to let some bank lie to my face and try to gaslight me about past delinquent accounts while gladly taking money from me now on 2 accounts in perfectly good standing all the while not having a single bad mark on any of my credit reports period. To heck with all that, Cap1 can take a hike.
