I got a call from them to verify my identity, wasn't a long call.
Asked for my name, dob, last 4 digits of ssn and my phone number. Put me on hold for 4-5 mins then told me I was verified but they needed to do one more step.
They needed to call me back on my phone number, so they called me back and done.
That was weird. But makes me feel safer that they are worried about identity theft.
I feel happier with Capital One now that this is the case. She said I might have to call them back if there is an issue with activating my card.

dont worry about it. They will do that if youve been on a spree right before or after getting there cards. They did that to me on my 2nd Venture and QS approvals...went thru verification, no big deal..have been using all cards since. I like that they did that, make sure it was me going for a 5th card of theirs, LOL

Pizza, were you also required to call them back, or they wanted ID?
no, they wanted to verify it was me, asked me questions from CRA, and then ha to call me back at my phone, and I answered a few more after they called me back. Passed with flying colors, no big deal. But, I just just applied for 2 cards back to back 45 days after my first approval of 2 cards, not surpried.

As a matter of security you should never provide identifying info to incoming calls. Only ok on calls you make to them. Why would they need to call you back? You might want to call Cap One and verify that it was Cap One that called you.
I agree, I am usually :susp: of incoming calls even with caller ID. So I either ask for a number to call them or ask questions like my card type, opening date or rewards balance. 90% of the time they refuse to say anything unless they verify me, so I just say well I guess we can't verify anything on this call, adios
Although it may be nothing, this sounds odd to me.
Cap One has never called me for such info. If needed, I get a pop when I log in online, or a message from them.
They've only called me once, and that was after I messaged Eo through FB. They replied saying the would call me within 24 hrs and did. And identified themselved too.
But I still asked to call them back before giving out personal info, and the rep was fine with it.
But the point remains. CapOne has never contacted me me via phone without my expecting the call.

I checked the phone number on their website, it was the same. The guy even asked me to check.
Capital One isn't the only one who does the call back step. American Express did the same thing with my mom.
