Capital One

I have had this card since 2000, a normal Cap One Platinum. Recently I've had success obtaining new credit with higher limits, (AMEX, Discover, Hooters).. I've had good history, but haven't been using the Cap One for a very long time. Anyways, I've tried unsuccessfully several times for a CLI, and have been denied. Is there any reason or anything that I should be doing that would up my chances? I am fairly happy with Cap one and would like to keep the card.. I've tried the backdoor number, and always receieve the "I'm sorry, there are no offers" message. Is this b/c the card doesn't allow for CLI? Should I apply for a new one then merge? Please help

Re: Capital One

I chatted up a CSR one day about basically the same issue (cap 1 is the lowest cl and highest apr in my wallet) and she stated they want to see usage.  She even said just small balance and PIF.  That's about all I know.....

Re: Capital One

I agree.  You have to use the card.  Usage is real big with them in regards to granting CLI's.

Re: Capital One

They have 3 different Platinum cards. They are tiered for specific maximim cl ceilings on a particular card. You might have reached the ceiling on your particular tier of card.

I know I have and can't go any higher. This has been verified by 2 different Account Specialists. One in December, and the other last week.

Re: Capital One

Yeah I'm pretty annoyed myself, I've been sitting at $2000 for two years now and I definitely use the card. I think I've reached the ceiling, I just also think it's stupid they cannot do product changes if that's what's necessary, and that I have to open and entirely new card to appear on my report......no thanks, not that serious. It can just sit in my drawer or someone else can use it, like my younger brother.

Re: Capital One

Nah, Capital One will grow.  I started with a $300 card in July 07 and I'm up to $2600.  Plus you can always get another card with them.

That's not the same thing as growing.  A card that grows with you will alter its terms in your favor as your credit profile and history with the issuer improve.

Having to get another card is a ridiculous policy.

And then there are those of us who can't figure out exactly what kind of Cap1 card we have.

Yeah thats exactly where I am with my first card (2004)  I don't see anything that relates to my card on the website... I think it's cause they have a lot more options for cards now and maybe back then they didnt?  It was opened in 2004 with $5000cl and hasn't moved AT ALL since then *shrug*
