Re: Capital one buckets- this is how u know ur in it

Unfortunately that how they operate. There are people on here for yrs and yrs. I have been on here for over 3 yrs. It was discussed then and it really hasnt changed in the time I have been on here. You can see my RIP cards below. Took time but i applied for the WEMC/VS catagory cards and was approved. I learned back then how the bucket cards work. Once a bucket remains a bucket sometimes for years. Some have so many prime time cards but those buckets remain the same. Stuck.

In a way. They use those bucket cards so you can set a patern to see if you can move up to the prime line up if you chose to apply with a good history with the starters. Yeah the triple pull sucks. And yes there are better cards for those w/o a BK like me and go a different route than me for the glory banks. Its is rare but few get great CLI's and upgraded to WMC or WEMC. But I think you'd have a better chance at getting hit by lightning before that happens. The starters are kinda like a Credit One card w/o fees that wont go anywhere. Only difference is they arent secured.

When my report ages a bit more and my scores are good I will be checking pre apps for the Savor & Amex. Once I have all rewards cards I can just relax for a couple years until I make a car or house purchase.

Great thinking. And you could combine your QS1 to the QS and have a pretty good limit card and no annual fess!

FireMedic1 is correct, look on the back of your card, my card that I thought was a QS says platinum on the back.

@FireMedic1 Are you saying that you closed your original bucket cards and re-applied for the WEMC/VS you have now?

Sneaky indeed!
The phone number Denise of the eo office told me to call in her voicemail was the worst telemarketing commercials I have ever heard(counted 5 and could not bypass them) when I finally got a person it quickly hung up on me, it was a cheery apologetic women( I think it was a recording).
I have no experience with credit one but I think if a company can be worse than cap one they are getting sued.
The movie Changing Lanes comes to mind staring none other than Samuel L Jackson of cap1 fame and fortune. Scarry stuff! The L stands for Leroy

Re: Capital one buckets- this is how u know ur in it

Cap One serves a purpose.   If you have outgrown the purpose, and don't see any use for the card the you can either sock drawer it or close it and move on to a card that does serve a purpose for you.

I started with a secured Cap One Platnimum.   I had it for a year and a half or so and could not get it unsecured .  I found out that when I opened it there was no provision in the T&C for it to unsecure.   So I apped for a new Cap One Got a QS19(Plat) in credit steps.   Once I got my credit steps incease I was able to pc the QS1 to a QS, still a platnimum.   I had sock drawered my secured platnimum while in credit steps and once I PC'd to the QS I closed the Platnimum since it no longer served a puropse for me.

Because of my usage on the QS1 I got a bigger than expected CLI for my credit steps.   So about a month after all this I got serveral new card from different issuers.   My original purpose was no longer necessary for the QS because I got some better rewards cards.  However I added my kids as AU on the QS and began to get some history for them.   They both just got their own cards so will not really be using the QS anymore, but it will still serve to give them some histoy.   I will be sock drawering it except for netflix to keep it active.

So follow my example, if you no longer have a use for your cap one close it.   If you can find a new use for Cap One keep it.   Either way don't get upset that Cap One treats you the same way they do all of their customers.

Re: Capital one buckets- this is how u know ur in it

I recently PCd from the Platinum to the QS and do not see Platinum anywhere on the back of the card. I'm wondering if that means I am not bucketed. Any experts know? If it helps, my last two CLIs on my platinum were each 3K (1250 --> 4250 --> 7250) but prior to that they were all 250 at a time.

@BTO That’s interesting. It doesn’t say Platinum anywhere on your statements either? Also, is it a regular MC or a WMC/WEMC?
