@PlasticOrPlastic wrote:To be honest its looking like Cap1 for a year at least. I discharged my BK in 2011, Cap 1 approved me and nobody else, 2 years out I got Barclay Rewards MC, then Discover, 3 years I got Best Buy store card, and Sallie Mae. Chase, Amex, and US Bank wont give me the time of day. Chase said try at 7 years and US Bank said 6.5 years should do the trick with no blemishes. Amex just flat out said no, they didnt want to talk about it further. I only included 1st Premier in my BK so that has no effect on thier decision.
Thanks for the history! That's helpful to me! Very disappointing to my grand plan, but helpful. It looks as if the 2% cash back on anything is just my pipe dream. Ah well 1.5% isn't anything to scoff at, too loudly

There's nothing wrong with trying for BoA and perhaps you'll be offered their secured card- someone please chime in on the timeframe for boa after a bk dismissal 2-3 years?
I just thought I had more options when a year after BK was up, which is when my apping would start passed secured cards. Good idea on the BoA app though, somebody with history I hope chimes up and lets me know the low down. I was convinced last month to app for the BoA card from the banker there. That was the worst idea because I wasted a HP for nothing. Plus it was before I found this forum and then I totally realized how stupid it was to do. I thought that they would be more favorable to me because I do my banking with them, but nope.
EDIT: html ended the quote early.

It goes really fast, I try not to wish my life away waiting for this stupid BK to fall off. You might try for Discover, a friend of mine didnt get the regular card but did get the secured which offers all the benefits (5% categories, ShopDiscover). He really likes it and his BK was only a few months old. Keep an eye on Barclay they have some great cards, and are very good with auto CLI. I went from $1300->$2600->$5000 in just over 6 months.
With the 2 Cap 1 cards that I have right now, would getting a 3rd card benefit me as far as score? Either BoA, Discover IT secured, or something else.

I've seen the same thing on the boards that people recommend 3. Well now I have to figure out what to apply as a interium to my 3 year goal of sallie mae! That is until somebody else tells me I can't get that one :*(

In time you'll get any card you want. Just work slow and consistant, this forum has tons of help and info. Some banks are going to be harder to get than others but that just makes the journey that much more rewarding (the first time I saw the Sallie Mae mentioned I thought I'd never get one). Take your time and build up a solid payment history, once that BK is gone any lender will be an option! Good luck.
I advise you to mix it up with both revolving and installment accounts reporting. You may want to check out getting small secured loans ($500). Many credit unions do not perform a hard pull for secured loans as you are essentially borrowing against your own funds. Pay the loan back with the $$ they loaned you. The interest you pay might only ending costing $7 per year. They do report the account activity to the credit bureaus. Some people rent to own small-priced items from Aaron's Furniture--using the 6 Months Same As Cash Method. After the merchanidise it paid in full, Aaron's reports the account as an installment account to all 3 credit bureaus (No credit check). Good luck!

I have a student loan that is coming back to active status since my BK got dismissed. I figured I was good for installment accts with just that. Do you still recommend a secured CD? I'm not aginst it, I just figured it wasn't needed with the student loan.
