I hope the CFPB gets involved.
As far as I remember, over the years my mortgages were sold to other lenders (thus opening a new account in the same sense) without my consent or indeed the opportunity to opt out.
ETA: Looking at the Chase credit card agreement on their site, under Assignment:
We may assign your account, balances you owe, or any of our rights and obligations under this agreement. The third party is then entitled to any of our rights that we assign to them.

It doesn't give the assignee the right to open a new account in your name without your consent. That's not a right Chase had, so it's not a right included in the assignment.

They are not opening a new account, the old account has been assigned to the new assignee, just like with a mortgage. But believe as you will!
Have a weird relatationship with Barclays.
Back in 2012 or 2013 got a NFL card for signup bonus,
approved with a super low limit,
never used it after getting the bonus/paid off and it was closed.
Then tried to apply another Barclays card in 2017 and was rejected.
So if the card moved to Barclays, will it help for my future relationship?
or just close it?
The new AARP will have a minimal $25 redemption,
Chase AARP can be redeemed any amount. I might just use a
2% card for gas.

According to the notice sent by Barclays, even if you opt out, they will open a new account in your name, and then close it.

Thanks for reminding me of this. Went ahead and requested my Chase AARP redemption.

Sorry to hear that. I was told the first time I called that my AARP card would be transferred to Barclays because I'm with AARP. I tried a few weeks later and got the same correct but sad info. On that called I inquired about PC to a Chase card at that time. Not possible.
I think the fault is with AARP. AARP decided to sell the portfolio to another issuer. I'm not a big fan of AARP. They talk a big game about advocating for seniors. In reality they would put their mommas on the block if it turned a coin.
At any rate I have no plans to keep the Barclays card. All my aggravation quotient is sucked up by American Express. ![]()
Got a letter from Chase today that said my account will be transferred to Barclays next month..... Already knew it from the Barclays pack a week or so ago.

I just transferred the limit to Freedom. AARP card is history.
