Move limit to freedom?

Does Chase make you wait xx months before you can move limits?

My Chase Amazon is like 8 months old. Can I move limits to my Marriott which is 6 months old?

Back on topic, yeah, the Chase Amazon is MOSTLY useless. IT IS USEFUL in the following instances:

(1) To pay for the Amazon Prime membership. The $99 AF cannot be paid for by the Amazon Store Card. Why? Weird. Dunno.

(2) They sometimes have specials where you save $ by using the Chase Amazon Visa. On the otherwise lame Amazon Prime Day, they had a promo code for $20 off $100 if you used the Chase Amazon Visa.

You could open up another Chase card, and move the limits that day.  IF you want to move the whole thing (I moved 1k from Amazon to Freedom, leaving 2k on Amazon), don't use the card with totally 0 balance for at least 30 days (I would give it 40).  Call in, ask for us reps, have them move all the limit, then close the card.  Otherwise, stuck with 500 card, and I don't think they move 500 limit.

To your (1) You can use Sallie Mae or Amex BCP to buy $99 Amazon gift and spend it on Prime for 5% or 6% back respectively.

Since I don't want to add to portfolio until 780, I will probably upgrade to BCP, just for this fun fact.  Make sure the grocery spend and amazon spend doesn't go over 6k.  Discover and Freedom help with that, in fact, with Discover double, got 5% back now, and 5% back later with Prime fee.

Re: Chase Amazon vs Store Card

I used to have a Chase Amazon. It's a meh card all around. 2% on a few things, 3% on Amazon, not much else going on. The points can be redeemed pretty flexibily which is nice but that is really the only plus.

Re: Chase Amazon vs Store Card

I got the Amazon Chase card because I was rebuilding and I wanted to get in with Chase. Well it worked. Four months later, Chase approved me for CSP with $8k SL. I did pump around $10k through the Amazon card though.

However, if one is a prime member, what is the point of getting the Chase version that only offers 3% back?

From a rewards standpoint there is none.  There may be a difference in the protections and benefits offered but you'd have to carefully review the terms for each.

Sallie Mae is another option though it is capped.

So what's the deal with everyone having two of these cards IF someone has prime?

Everyone doesn't.  I don't have either.

Re: Chase Amazon vs Store Card

From a rewards perspective, the store card is great if you are a prime member. But that inherently comes with the requirement to remain a prime member if you want that 5%. I am a Prime member now because I find the benefits outweigh the cost. If I ever decide it is no longer so, though, the store card would instantly become useless. The Chase Visa gives you 3% on Amazon regardless of whether you are a Prime member, decide to remain one or not.

Then there is also the fact that the Chase Visa is, well, a Visa, so it's accepted everywhere and you can earn points everywhere. And if your Chase Visa is a Visa Signature, you get VS benefits such as extended warranty and purchase protection. If you happen to smash that brand new iPhone within 90 days of buying it from Amazon (or anywhere else), Visa will replace it or reimburse you. Does the store card do this?

Of course, both cards are useless to me right now on Amazon since Discover is running a full 6 months of 5% rewards on Amazon this year, and with the double promo, that's 10%. Plus you get purchase protection, price protection, extended warranty and all that good stuff. Beat that.

Agreed that max rewards may not always be the only consideration as much as we like to harp on it. Yfan has a valid point.

How do you pay for Prime with a gift card?  I've been trying to figure out ever since I got my BCP, but I never saw a way to pay for the membership fee other than with a credit card on file.

My Prime annual fee will be the first week of January, right after the Discover Amazon category is over, so I would love to know how this is done!

Re: Chase Amazon vs Store Card

I used to have the Amazon store card when it was GEMB. There were no perks but the financing. I actually really like the Chase Amazon. Although SallieMae is better for amazon purchaes. I much prefer the amazon visa rather than the amazon store card but that might be because I had it back whenthere wasnt the prime aspect added to the store card.
