Chase Auto CLI pattern?

So, I got Chase Freedom and Freedom Unlimited at the same time (applied for both in the same day).

My CL at that time for both is $1,000.

I have reluctantly been using both of them because Discover and CapOne QS bring me more cash back. I only use Chase cards when I forgot the other two.

This morning I notice a CLI for Freedom Unlimited to $2,000. Not a real big one because all my capOne and Discover credit line now is $9,000 and $20,000.

Note that only Chase Freedom Unlimited got the increase but not the Freedom. I wonder on what criteria do they base on to give us auto cli, because I have been using those Chase card in identical way with very limit spending on both.

Congrats on the auto-CLI! Unfortunately they're not common enough with Chase to draw a pattern other than general high usage. I went from $500 to $1000 myself, but have seen people get increases from higher SL's as well.

Re: Chase Auto CLI pattern?

Based on two other recent posts & scattered data points on the forum it seems there is no clear discernable pattern. There are a few common details I've noticed but nothing I'd call a pattern - most people reporting an auto-cli occurring between 4 months to 1 year of opening account, typically use the card heavily with upwards of 50-70% usage, and they generally PIF.

That said there are plenty of outliers who don't fit these criteria - people report old cards suddenly getting a 1-2k boost after years of nothing, some report a cli with 60% util and medium sized payments. Most I'd say report never seeing one. It's a mixed bag.

My advice is don't expect to see one & plan your growth accordingly. My wife has a freedom & freedom unlimited and both are still at their opening limits from 5+ years ago. My CSP is the first chase card I've ever had & I'm planning to either open a Ritz card to fold the CL into the CSP or if I feel bold enough request a PC to sapphire reserve hoping that the HP cli gets me the $5k I'd need to meet the reserv's $10k min. I'll probably request HP cli first & see how high it gets me as I've got more of a aaoa problem than HP.

Yeah no pattern . My only Chase card is Amazon and at $1500, i dont expect any auto love even though some with low limits do get one. Roll of the diceSmiley Wink

Re: Chase Auto CLI pattern?

The only real clear data we have on auto's with Chase, and its not a guarantee, is folks who are using like 50%-90% of their CL each month. For example.. CL is $1k..they are using up to that limit every month, sometimes having to make multiple payments.

I would just use your cards, as you normally would, and see what happens 6-12 mo.

Re: Chase Auto CLI pattern?

Weird thing is that, I only use Chase cards around sub-$50 each month, pay the minimum, pif once in a while lol. $1,000 is pretty hard to use on anything and I am tired of having to micro-manage all the cards. It's amazon period for Discover right now as well...

ok, well then the only other options here are to A).call and take a HP for a CLI and risk only getting $500 min or none at all, or B)  combine the limits.

I would personally go with "A" if it came down to it. Its just a HP, and some folks here make out to be like it a life and death situation to take a HP for something. If you want more of a CL, then call and take the HP. If you can wait it out, and you have other cards you can use, then do that.

Re: Chase Auto CLI pattern?

Gotta agree with pizza. Seems like a lot of folks give HP more weight than it deserves. Of course fewer are better but they aren't THAT bad, if anything I worry more about aaoa. I'm only considering combining limit because while I'm not afraid of the HP for a cli I just don't feel entirely confident a HP cli will net me the $5k I need to PC. Going to sit & think on it until at least the new year and my disco - NFCU - citi cli attempts.

Re: Chase Auto CLI pattern?

Not that I asked about whether I need to ask for CLI on my other card. It's just that Chase is really hard when it comes to CLI, but I got auto CLI without using the card that much, so I find it weird.

Chase is weird. I've gotten two auto bumps both $500 and I use my card like crazy.
