I asked for a first-ever CLI on my 10 year-old $4200 Freedom card on New Years Eve and was denied. Literally 2 minutes later, I applied for the CSP and got approved for $12,000 then a few months later approved for a $3500 (meh) Slate. Usually opening a new account and reallocating credit lines is more fruitful. DW did ask for a CLI on her Chase card (circa 1994) and went from $9700 to $19,400 (doubled), but I should note that the card had a credit line somewhere in the $25k range when the financial crisis hit and they balance chased her so it's still not back to where it was in 2007. She just apped for a CSP and got a $27,000 SL as another point of reference for how much more fruitful a new app can be. I have never received an auto CLI from Chase.
The data points (for years) with Chase is that auto CLI is given mostly to folks who show very high utilization and then pay it off, but it isn't guaranteed. Some folks get auto CLI after doing a big balance transfer and it off.
MOST folks with big Chase limits did it by opening a throwaway cardmand rellocating credit limits when allowed. AARP or Disney are common cards to open, reallocate limits and close.
I opened my Chase FU on May 9th and my Chase Freedom on on May 15th. I just logged into my Chase account and saw that my Chase FU had an Auto CLI from $4000 (SL) to $5000. I usually carry about a 10% balance on this card and a 15% balance on the Freedom (only carry a balance because of my 0% Intro APR). I'm waiting until January 15th to see if the other account gets an Auto CLI as well. Will keep you all updated!!
Update 1/20/2018: Still no love on my Chase Freedom account. Not sure if this one will ever get an Auto CLI :-(
I've had a Chase Freedom card for a little over 3 months (mid Nov 2018) with a CL of $2000. I use it often, and keep my utilization around 25% around statement closing time. I check all of my accounts usually twice a week. This morning, I noticed my CL doubled to $4000. #ForTheWin
Haha! Congrats!
I have Chase Freedom, not FU since 2009.
Over the yeards, my CL went from 1500 > 3500 > 4500 > 6900 > 8900 > 9800 > 10900.
I did this:
Pay more than min due; make a BIG payment once every 4-6 months.
With a UTL of 40-60%
Never got an auto CLI with Chase. PIF but sometimes my statement cuts with less than $100 posted. 2 years with Hyatt card 2.5 years with Freedom card.
I think the trick here is UTL. (40-60%-ish) with not PIF but more than min payments. Then every 3 months or so PIF.
I had tried this at Chase and it worked for auto CLI.
My Chase Cards
=============
CSP(10k) 4years 2 months
CSR (10k) 1 year 5 months
Chase Unilimited (AU)(5k) 1 year 10 months
Chase Freedom (was amtrak)(4.6k) 4 years 2months
Southwest (20k) 3 years 10 months
Chase Freedom (6.6k) 6 years
Chase Slate (closed)
Chase Unlimited (500 auto-CLI to 1500) 5 months
As you can see I have an extensive relationship with Chase, no lates, no baddies on my reports, good income, I have recieved a total of 2 auto-cli with chase over my 6 years relationship with them. The first was on my Freedom card but was many years ago, and just recently with my Unlimited card. Chase prefers you apply for another card and move credit limits around as needed which was the case when they approved me for my Unlimited card with $500 CL, but I was stubborn, didn't call and then proceeded to use the card hard put like $450 with only a $500 limit, and then scheduled another charge that would of put me over the limit and scheduled payments to pay most of it, the following month I got the $1000 auto-luv. I can probably get more I use the card hard again, but pretty much only got the card for the $150 signing bonus. Since the card has a zero AF it will just live on in my sock drawer until I want to use it.
