Chase Refusing to Drop Annual Fee

Has anyone had issues with Chase not removing the annual fee from a card after downgrading? The annual fee for my CSP dropped about 2 weeks earlier than expected, so I called and asked for a downgrade to a Slate. They said sure, no problem, the annual fee that is shown there will be removed or credited.

Fast forward 2 weeks, after unreplied to SM and a phone call consisting of 15-20min on hold, they are telling me the only option is to close the account.

This does not sound remotely correct. Am I misunderstanding something here?

Doesn't sound right. You are downgrading to a card with a completely different suite of benefits.

Weird..

Maybe try calling one more time and asking for a supervisor. If that still doesn't work, try contacting the EO.

Re: Chase Refusing to Drop Annual Fee

I think I will just be going straight to EO when I get a chance to call. I've spent more time than it would take to make the money to pay the AF 2x over

will update later

Re: Chase Refusing to Drop Annual Fee

This doesn't sound right at all. Why would you have to pay the AF if you downgraded? They are just taking your money and not giving you any of the benefits. When I downgraded I didn't have an issue, but I will double check and see.

Re: Chase Refusing to Drop Annual Fee

I just checked. I got my fee refunded in the following statement. If you waited until the fee posted to your account then you probably have to pay the fee and wait for the fee to be refunded in the statement following the cycle in which you downgraded.

Re: Chase Refusing to Drop Annual Fee

If I am understanding this correctly; the annual fee occured, I changed product, statment cut, and now I need to pay that annual fee before the deadline to eventually have a $95 credit on my account which I then will have to request a check to get back?

 edit:

recieved a SM after sending another yesterday before calling in. It looks like they do indeed take 1-2 statement cycles to reimburse the annual fee. I promptly replied with my dissatisfaction with providing Chase with an interest free loan for 2 months, no matter the amount. Kind of feel bad for the rep now...

Surprised and not surprised at how misinformed the CC rep was yesterday though.
