Re: Chase Sapphire Elite...

I, for one, am waiting for it to come out and see what the overall benefits end up being.  I would be interested in it.

Re: Chase Sapphire Elite...

I am excited to see this card as well. I won't be apping for it this year due to the very limited, if any, travel I will be doing over the next year due to various life events. However next year, i'll most likely start a new job which will require more travel, plus I will be able to do some recreational travel as well! I've been looking at the Plat/Prestige, but not sure either are worth it.
I am mostly interested in the lounge access and other benefits (4th night won't do much for me as I rarely stay more than 2 nights in a place) so i'll have to analyze how the lounge benefits impact me and if I can do better with a specific airline card.
The UR 50% bonus thing is awesome though. Has anyone used the UR travel site? Is it basically a mirror of a site like expedia, or is it an independent site with higher prices and less selection?

If I can get this with the bonus, add it to my Freedom, and then PC my useless Slate into a Freedom Unlimited, i'll be racking up massive UR points left and right! Imagine that, 7.5% categories on Freedom categories, 4.5% on DIning/Travel, 2.25% on everything else!!! Holy cow!!

You can PC your Slate now.  Then start earning UR points with the CF and CFU that you can redeem when you find the time is right to open the CSR.

I just came up on my one year anniversary and I've used the UR portal quite a bit to book both flights and hotels. I do all my searching using other aggregation sites like google flights/etc and then check to see if the flight I've chosen is available on UR (if it's not a transfer partner) and I've been often surprised to find either the same price as the cheapest I've found or sometimes slightly cheaper. The same can mostly be said of the hotels I've chosen although for my recent trip I have a leg in Greece and I found those hotels to actually be slightly more ($5-10) for whatever odd  reason. I've found the UR portal to be very competitive in pricing but the layout and format of the page isn't very good for the actual searching.

Re: Chase Sapphire Elite...

To those people who say not to PC the CSP to the new product I have a question. I'm going to apply but my expectation is that I will be declined due to 5/24. In the event that I am declined and were to PC the CSP and miss out the on the sign up bonus wouldn't I be able to apply later and receive the signup bonus once I'm free of the garden since I never received it in the first place?

Probably, but there is no guarantee that the 100K bonus will last.

Re: Chase Sapphire Elite...

I sure hope it isn't going by 5/24! I'll be at exactly 5/24 in Nov but only if they don't include a heloc app! I would apply now if no 5/24 ;-)

I did read an article today on Frequent Miler that said the $300 travel credit was general travel and auto applied! That would be amazing!!

Re: Chase Sapphire Elite...

I'm pretty sure this WOULD be the card where 5/24 would be most applicable. They're giving away (if the rumors are correct) points worth an absolute minimum of $1000 for an annual fee that's effectively $150. If the intent of 5/24 is to discourage churners, they're going to do so on the card with the biggest bounty!

I wonder if they have any funky rules about the $300 travel credit. I remember when I had the Arrival Plus card, you could only redeem in $25 increments towards travel purchases, and it was generally kind of a pain to manage.

For me it'll come down to lounge access mostly. I'll have to crunch the numbers to see if the effectively $150 AF can be offset by the additional spend bonuses I'll receive in certain categories. If there is good lounge access in airports that I layover in often, I'll probably go for it.

Maybe I missed something since I didn't read through all the pages but many of you whom are well over the 5/24 are talking about applying for this card without doing a PC as not to miss the bonus. How do you guys intend on doing that? Just rolling the dice?

No one knows yet whether it will be under 5/24.  It probably will but we can dream.  There is the option of applying at a Chae bank (I do not have this option) as people have had success getting around 5/24 that way.

Ahh I see. Well I'm hoping they allow everyone that qualifies to get one regardless of the 5/24. I thought maybe there was a loop hole discovered because the way some were posting they seemed quite confident they were getting one even though they had many cards in their sig lol. Unfortunately, Chase banking isn't in my state which is weird.

I live in the Washington DC area and you would think there would be Chase branches here but nope.  I'm going to do what Open123 suggests as a HP is well worth 100K UR points which I will put to good use on some international flight.  Besides 5/24 I'm pretty sure that I am maxed with them on limits but I'm willing to close the CSP so...and I would do that anyways if approved.

Right, just say something like, "oh, I really like the CSP (as my history shows), but this new card fits my needs much better!  Ordinarily, I'd never close or PC my CSP, but when I saw this new exciting card, I wanted to app for it.  Can you make an exception on the 5/24 this one time?"

May not work, but it'll have a higher chance of success initially rather than later when everyone else tries it.

*Edited* PS - The reason to app first is because most will wait for confirmation before doing so.  When there are finally enough datapoints to satisfy the general public, the opportunity is over (not unlike the stock market), if only because of the flood of applications will no longer accord Chase the luxury to make exceptions (assuming it's even a possibility).  As always, when there's a compelling deal (no brainer on this one), always be amongst the first to enter and then leave.

So true.  When data points out for other new cards, the data points change.  Smiley Wink. This would be in my bandwagon, but not for awhile (want a points transfer card).
