Chase SignUp Bonuses and Authorized Users.

I am an authorized user on a friend's Sapphire Preferred card. We hope to switch it to be a Sapphire Reserve card in a bit, for additional lounge access (over my United Club life membership). Having nine days in to my United Quest Card, I am already a quarter of the way to meeting my $5,000 for my 90,000 miles. At that point, I will be ready to go for the 90,000 Chase Sapphire Preferred signup bonus. What I want to know is does my having a Sapphire authorized user card affect my ability to get the Sapphire signup bonus.

A second related question is how long should one wait between getting a Chase card and applying for a second one? I am at 1.5/24 (one card and one authorized user card) and 1/6 (just my Quest Card). I now have two cards of my own, although the Quest has not yet reported (and probably will not until the end of this month or next month), and two authorized user accounts.

Having an AU Sapphire card does not prevent you from receiving a SUB for your own.   There is no official time threshold between applications with Chase.  You would be 2/24 not 1.5/24.  AU cards count, but upon manual review if you are at 5/24, Chase has been known to discard an AU account for approval.

Re: Chase SignUp Bonuses and Authorized Users.

Chase has a 2/30 rule. You can apply for 2 cards in a 30 day period, any more then 2 is Automatic denial. Most people have had the best luck waiting at least 90 days after approval of your 1st card with chase so they can see you patterns and behaviors

Great. That was my concern. Still trying to decide if I want to get the Sapphire Preferred or let my BF get it and be an authorized user on it.

Thanks, I knew there was no such thing as fractional accounts, it was just my humor coming through.

I vaguely remembered hearing something like that, but I do not think that will be a problem for me, as I am not sure there is another Chase card I want other than the Sapphire Preferred card (well, I really want the Reserve card, but the 90,000 point signup bonus is 30,000 points better, so I would start with that one and then switch).

In the first month or two I will have covered my $5,000 spend for the 90,000 mile signup bonus on my Quest Card (already at $1,500 with United Purchases, along with some dining and travel in less than two weeks). After that, it will probably mostly be used for United purchases and car rentals only. Not sure that will be better or worse for my chances. :-)
