Looks like a sweet deal. I already got United explorer in 2014 and currently have 40k miles. Can i PC this card to another chase card and apply for new United explorer and get this bonus 60k, so that i can have total of 100k miles. Will i lose my 40k miles when i cancel my united card?

Re: Chase United Cards have a new SUB!

I'm actually down to 4/24 but have plenty of United miles remaining. The two or three routes where I'm likely to fly United so rarely have reasonable awards when I need them.

(LAX/ONT to SFO or ACV)

Personal spend: Amex Gold, Amex Schwab Plat., BofA PR+CCR(x2), Costco
Business use: Amex Bus. Plat., BBP, Lowes Amex AU, CFU AU
Perks: Delta Plat., United Explorer, IHG49, Hyatt, "Old SPG"
Mostly SD: Freedom Flex, Freedom, Arrival
Upgrade/Downgrade games: ED, BCE
SUB chasing: AA Platinum Select

You'd have to see if they will let you downgade to either the Mileage Plus or Travelbank card as both have been closed to new applicants.

The only officially supported option would be to PC the Explorer to a Club card as long as you have at least a $15K CL. Chase doesn't support a PC from co-branded to core cards nor between the different co-branded product lines like for example United to Marriott.

The miles are associated with your UA Mileage Plus account and you would not lose them if you PC'd or cancelled the card.

Does the Mileage Plus card have an annual fee (the old one)? If I recall correctly, it did not have one for 1K fliers and above. I like the benefits of the Infinite Club card, but since my b/f and I both have lifetime United Club cards, the cost would not make sense.

I know the card you mean, it's still serviced with benefits intact, and the current AF is  $140/yr.   I don't remember whether or not I got waivers for those years I was a 1K.

I would agree that if each of you holds a lifetime UC membership the Club card wouldn't have much added value vs. an Explorer card.

The problem is that as 1K Flyers, it is not even clear that the regular Explorer card is worth it. Upgrades on award tickets, a slightly higher position as a tie breaker against other people with the same status for upgrade, and 25% off WiFi vs. $95. If I at least got an extra bag, it would sometimes be worth it. :-)

Sometimes every little bit can be worth it with regard to tiebreakers

I remember flights SFO-BOS where nearly half the passengers were either GS or 1K.

Re: Chase United Cards have a new SUB!

I honestly toyed with the idea of the United Infinite before covid. I had about 20 flights set up for the year and it seemed like a good idea. Seems like I will just live in gold status this year thanks to early season flying. Has Chase done any sort of earning structure like they did with CSR and others related to COVID spending categories for either of these cards? Like, more miles for groceries/instacart/etc?

Still kind of debating it with the 100k deal. Hopefully it gets extended to sometime after October when I don't care anymore about inquiries and new accounts.
