So, I've read this entire thread. My situation is this: Had a WaMu card that became a Chase card. Hubby lost his job, we almost lost our house. It was either pay the house or pay the bills. I chose to pay the house but we eventually had to file Ch. 13. Ended up burning Chase for $3500. BK was discharged and will fall off in 15 months. Now debt free, I constantly get the Chase $300/$200 bonus offers to open checking/savings.
I want to get back in with Chase and eventually qualify for some of their CC products. I'd like to take advantage of that offer and get the free money. It seems like, from all I've read, that I would be allowed to have checking/savings accounts. My income is good. Here's my question: Will they do a credit check inquiry in order to open a checking account? Will starting this relationship with them put me in a better position to get a CC product when the BK drops off next year?
Thanks for any insight you can offer.

I think starting a relationship banking wise will help you eventually get to where you want to be. I had horrible credit when I opened my PNC account, and nothing was ever said about my scores so I would assume the same of Chase. PNC didn't HP anything either. I would try for it and see what happens.
My BF had an account with WaMu that was eventually charged off. This was over 10 years ago. Since Chase bought out WaMu they seem to now have him on a "blacklist". He applied for the Southwest cc last and was denied because of a "derogatory history with the bank".
He's determined to get back in with Chase so he has now opened a checking account with them and is an authorized user on my Ritz Carlton. He's planning to apply again in a year or so.

Question: When he got the checking account, was he able to receive the $300 checking bonus for new accounts? Technically, I didn't charge off, I burned them in BK. I know that's probably worse, but I guess it means I know longer "owe" them the $$.
So...went into Chase today. I asked, "If I burned Chase in the past, what are the chances that I might not be approved for a checking account?" The guy helping me said that it is likely that I wouldn't get approved and that even if I was, I would not be elligible for the $300 sign up bonus if I owed Chase any $. Now, technically, I no longer owe them money since my debts were discharged through Ch. 13. He made it sound grim so I walked out, not wanting to risk an inquiry for nothing. Anyone else in the same boat as me with a BK? It will drop off my credit reports in May 2018.
