Chase peculiarities

I was reminded of some quirks with my Chase cards. For both of them with the cycle ending this month, they closed a day early, and yet the statement date is listed as what could normally be expected.

Nothing wrong with statement dates fluctuating a bit; the card act merely requires that monthly due dates stay the same. But when you log in online, is the upcoming closing day listed anywhere?

Re: Chase peculiarities

Yes, select the card on the left, then go to the cards drop down menu that say "Things you can do", select "Account details" and then you can see your next closing date.

Several times when I log in on closing date, I can see that the statement is already closed. Other cards still report posted transaction on closing date. It looks like Chase close early that day while others close at the end of that day.

Re: Chase peculiarities

Found the selection, thanks. About the closing date, maybe it could be taking place so early in the day that it’s just past midnight ET and still the previous day in the other time zones.

I have also noticed that if it’s past the end of the business day and you call customer service to pay the same day, the payment date says today, but the payment isn’t fully processed any faster because of it.

It appears the same goes for making a payment on a Friday. If I remember correctly, the payment isn’t posted until Monday morning, which directly delays the reporting to the credit bureaus following such a statement date.

I wonder how this morning is going to turn out. It’s Monday, but there’s no postal service and banks are closed, while retail stores are up and running.

Added: a Chase card with a statement date of Saturday did show up on EX this morning.

Assuming PIF still, if a payoff gets applied late, unless you've racked up new charges Chase will re-report at $0 anyway.

As far as Chase idiosyncracies go I'll put up a lot for that when it comes to credit card payments, sort of makes due date tracking a bit moot unless you have a mortgage or similar in flight in which case I simply wound up using a few cards anyway instead of the whole portfolio just for peace of mind.
