Chase two for one - almost

So I decided on applying for the Chase Sapphire Freferred and Freedom. I want them both so I can combine the ultimate rewards into 1 account. I was hoping to get them both on the same HP by doing them the same day but I don't know if I'll be successful. I talked to a half a dozen CSRs that were pretty sure it would be two, but noone told me to not try. I went for the Sapphire Preferred first and got approved for $6000. Next on the Freedom I went for the $300 cashback offer and got the 10 day message. They probably need to review it manually because of the 2 apps. Oh well we'll see.

On a side note the SP is a Visa sig, on the Freedom I was hoping for a MasterCard but the $300 intro offer appears to be Visa only, I wonder if I can PC to a MasterCard later if it's approved.

I'll have to re-evaluate in a year and see if I want to pay the AF for the SP or downgrade. And, if I get the Freedom, my collection will be complete except for a 5% gas card.

I now have USAA World MC, Discover More, BofA 123 Visa Sig, AmEx BCP, Chase SP, & Target.

Re: Chase two for one - almost

I did the same thing.

Applied first for Freedom and instantly approved....applied later that day for Slate and got the 10-day message. Called and asked and the rep said it would be two pulls, but I've only gotten a credit alert for the 1 Chase pull SO FAR (knock on wood), so we'll see what happens.

At this point I don't care if I get the Slate or not, as long as there's not a second pull!

Interesting, so yours was recent I guess. I applied for the SP first because that's the one I wanted most. The Freedom would just be gravy at this point, but the $300 CB would be nice.

Yup, just got approved on the 21st.

and lol me too...wanted Freedom the most, so I did that one first. The Slate would just be icing on the cake...assuming there was no 2nd pull. Smiley LOL

This past Sept. I applied for Freedom and Slate within 5 minutes of each other. Both approved, 1 INQ--YMMV.

Re: Chase two for one - almost

On 1/31/12 I applied for the Freedom (after Chase BA in May and SP in Aug) and got the 7-10 day message with no inquiry. Got the letter saying to many open accounts with Chase so closed the BA for the Freedom. If you're not seeing the second inquiry I'm sure they are manually reviewing. Hopefully you get a positive outcome (even if you have to recon). Pairing the Freedom with SP pretty much rounded out my CCs.

Re: Chase two for one - almost

UPDATE:

Today I got the letter in the mail for denial on the Freedom.

The reason: Too many requests for credit or opened accounts with us.

So, I called the backdoor number I found here, and they did a recon. The guy says the system normally kicks it back if it sees two the same day. So after about 5 minutes on hold, APPROVED! $5k limit so it should be a Signature. It'll be a Visa for now but he said after a few months I should be able to PC to Mastercard.

So far no second pull... fingers crossed that it stays that way.

Hey LTomBerry!  Congrats on the SP!  What a card!  If you don't mind, I have been just going back and forth about apping for the Chase cards (pre-approvals for both Freedom and SP)  I'm wondering who they pulled and how many inquiries you had on your reports along with how many new accounts.  I hope this isn't asking too much but I just don't want to jeopardize my new accounts with Amex and Citi.  I really appreciate your post!  I don't know how sensitive Citi and Amex are to new accounts opening within just a few months of opening them.  Not worried about FR more so about AA for excessive new accounts.  Thanks!

So if chase gives you a 5k limit that means that it is signature? I thought that meant it was platinum... Visa confuses me!
