Used my Citi Custom Cash at a Shell station today to fill up. The Shell screen offered me a 50c discount per gallon on the fill up, if I used 1,250 Thank You points for the privilege. I passed on the offer, to allow me some time to review. It is interesting that TYP are linking this way.
My fill up turned out to be 14 gallons, so I would have gotten a $7 discount for giving up TYP worth a minimum of $12.50 as straight cash.
If someone had a larger gas tank, this might make sense, though I suspect in the fine print there's some cut off of Fill Size at probably 25 gallons or even 20 gallons.
Good to know. I am glad you declined before you had a chance to research it. Nusenda used to have some convoluted way of redeeming your rewards at the pump. It was confusing but I 'think' it worked out to be less money than accepting the cash back. Now it is ACH bank transfer only. Unfortunately in $50s.

If you normally redeemed TYP for cash you'd have to be buying 25 gallons of gas just to break even up front.
I have the Shell MC by Citi. I also get 50 cents off per gallon at the pump. They said it was for the first 5 fill ups but I am sure that I must be over 100 fill ups by now and I still get the 50 cents off. There is a Shell station here at $2.87 a gallon so I payed only $2.37 a gallon and I just filled up a few days ago. I only drive about 9,000 miles a year so at gas so cheap I have not yet purchased an EV. Maybe next time maybe not.
Thanks
Mark
As a comparitive, I was filling at Shell, a different vehicle today, and using Fred Meyer fuel points. Same Custom Cash card. FM Fuel Points worked, no offer to use TYP on the card.
So Shell doesn't want double dipping by customers, since it's their gas sale.

Ok, stop bragging Mark! Gas is $4.50 / gal at best here in So Cal.
Interesting. Has anyone else on here had the same 50cent off experience with the Citi Shell MC?
