Citi typically does this when the account is being upgraded to World/World Elite MasterCard. I got the same message 1 month after I got my Citi AA Platinum Select World MC. Otherwise, I also got a similar message when fraudulent activity appeared on my AA card.

Upgrade to the Silver :-)
I will say that I've become quite interested in keeping my Barclays AA card over my Citi version in the event that I do decide to upgrade to Silver in the future. I'm a lot more fond of Citi than I am of Barclays, however. I still want the elusive Red WEMC though...
