+++1 ... Bravo!!  One of the only times I've seen criticism of the available 2% options.  I don't have a 2%-on-everything pure cash back card.   I've been evaluating the 2% options and frustrated with the lack of a clear winner.  If you study the fine print and read the user reviews, all of them have limitations and quirks.

Give me an account that has ALL of these features.  There are none that I have found.

 - NO minimum redemptions (which sets you up to lose a % of your savings).

*$50 (5000 pts) Fidelity; $25 DC; Alliant $20; SDFCU+PenFed are lowest at $5 minimum IIRC

*Nobody redeems starting at a penny (Like cards from Capital One, Bank of America, Discover, etc.)

 - NO requirement to maintain a separate bank, investment (Fidelity or Bank of America), or PayPal account.

 - NO loss of 2% value when redeemed for CASH (Fidelity = only 1% if cashed out.)

 - NO loss of 1% when you pay with your points instead of cash-out (DC)

 - NO loss of points as long as account is open and in good standing.

*DC = 12 months activity limit; some others have longer limits.

 - NO Foreign Transaction Fees

 - NO charge for paper statements (PenFed = $1 a month)

 - Easy access to account info; charges; notifications via website or app

        *PPMC has cumbersome interface reviews

 - Good to Excellent Customer service and fraud prevention reviews

(*I've seen sketchy ones from several of the 2% lenders.)

I am still considering them but wish there was a clear winner.

*This list does not consider any cards that give Points (MR,UR, etc) or Miles since they are not CASH into my account or statement credit and if they even have a cash-out option do not pay at a 2% cash rate.

You made me literally  laugh out loud. You will never get everything you want from 1 card. The PPMC will be the closest to what you want. You can 100% redeem for $0.01 if you want. I don't use the card much so I just redeemed $0.16. And, there's no "maintenance" of an account to get your money. You set up a PayPal and add a bank for transferring. That's it. Literally, the only thing you'll need to use it for is to transfer your cash out. Takes the same amount of time as any other cashback card to get my money. Just need to take one extra step. And if you don't use your PayPal account, it just sits there. There's no fees or maintenance involved.

Re: Citibank DC vs. Paypal MC?

I have the Paypal, Citi DC and Fidelity VISA. I prefer the Paypal over the others for the no min redemption requirement and no FTF. I also find transferring my rewards from paypal MasterCard to Paypal then to my bank isn’t much of a hassle as it seems. My paypal card also came with a 100$ SUB.

Also my money appears in my bank account the following day when I transfer it from paypal. That’s no different than moving your rewards from the DC to your bank. Only difference is that the Paypal just requires an extra step imo.

With that being said, I really only use my Paypal MC for bills that don’t get 5% on the Cash+. My BBP gets all of my other non category spend.

It was actually left over from the last month. I just figured it was better to keep it in my PayPal for a purchase or sending money.

This is your answer, OP.

#1 and #3 actually makes redemption less cumbersome than DC.

#2 is actually a very important reason for why I picked this card myself.

That said, you have to be mindful on how you use this card. People seem to have a problem with this card when they have to deal with Synchrony. I've had a problem with Sync as well, but only because their security technology is not as good as say, Amex.

Re: Citibank DC vs. Paypal MC?

I've received offers for both and the no FTF on the PayPal MC makes it look very attractive.

Re: Citibank DC vs. Paypal MC?

Just wondering. Are you guys required to set up Synchrony account to pay PPMC? Or can this be done directly through PayPal?

From what I've read you do everything through the PayPal app which redirects you to Synchrony within the app.

You have to go to the Synchrony portal from the PayPal website. There’s no app access whatsoever which is why I just push payments from my bank electronically.

PayPal Cashback vs Citi Double Cash

Hello all,

I am trying to decide what card would be best here as an all around daily driver for 2% CB when my spending category doesn't fit into a credit card that I have with a higher rewards yield.

It appears that the majority of the benefits for the Citi Double Cash card have been nerfed. PayPal Cashback has some advantages over the Citi Double Cash including no FTFs and no minimum reward redemption. Neither card appears to have any sign-up bonuses. I'm not aware of any advantages that the Citi Double Cash card might have over the PayPal Cashback card.

Is there any reason not to get the PayPal Cashback over the Citi Double Cash? Any cards that have 2% on all purchases that you would recommend instead?
