The benefit or trying is that even if he is denied, he will get a letter telling him why.  That information can be useful for helping make better decisions later and building his file.  Him having a CC now will help him to learn how to be responsible and build the histroy he will need later!

Also, Iget these invites all the time from them.  Well not all the time, about every 4 months.  This is not a card I personally have any interest in, but for him and a thin file it would be a good starter if approved.

There nothing wrong with trying; Citi UW is the same on Simplicity, DP and TY- a cc he could use would be a wiser choice IMO.

Thank you all for your responses. I agree that a better card geared towards students would be more appropriate.  I dont know a lot about the Citi cards, I don't want to rush him into a card but he has been worthy so far, handles his finances quite well (better than i did at that age!) and i do want him to get something as he uses his bank debit and that is too scary.  I haven't tried running his reports in the last 6 mos because all 3 bureaus had nothing to run.  Maybe now they do, well obviously theyve got something if Citi can pull him. Smiley Happy

I keep getting these too. Last week it was 18.99% apr. This week 19.99. If I get a citi card it would be a dividend and not for the next year at least.
