Just because your history and scores can't justify a decent APR/CL with a premire card company is no reason to blame AMEX. Perhaps you should look in the mirror?

Why so harsh? Amex DOES generally have higher APRs than many CUs (as do most banks). Maybe OPs experience with the CSRs has been bad, I've had my share. CL wasn't mentioned, and yes, many Amex cards have high fees (which may or may not be worth it). Penfed cards are usually harder to get than Amex, and OP has two of those.
The overseas call centers for Amex are annoying! Thats my only gripe
