Recently stayed at Marriott, points were awarded based on room rate. It's been several month's since I stayed at a Rennaissance so I can't say to be sure, but Marriotts do not include restaurant, bar, etc in the points calculation for the stay. (Obviously, does count on the Marriott CC)
Wow .... I had never realized this!
I just went through my recent bills. Can confirm only room rate received points at the Courtyard. At the full service Marriott's, I received points on room, restaurant/bar and business center, but not parking.
Honestly I feel the splitting hairs on the points and not being transparent about it to be annoying. As we know Marriott's cater to business travelers. I would expect that most business travelers such as myself eat and drink in the hotels because of the convenience, and assume they are receiving points for doing so. I mean we are not eating there because the food is great!
