Converting Citi Double Cash

Just found that the cash reward in my Citi DC card account expired a couple months ago due to inactivity.  I do not recall of any other cash back credit cards that would expire.  I called and requested reward reinstatement and they finally agreed.

I plan to PC it to Citi Dividend, or other card.  I have not found any reason to use this card.  The Fidelity card has the same reard and I still have the points there....

Use to have fidelity it was 50$ increments if I remember correctly?  CL was blah as well due to Elan card, but yours might be higher than my 6.5k cl..  Think the 50$ redemption threshold is why I closed it..  Now have the DC and use it as my primary CC due to price rewind among other benefits.  Works for me, but doesn't mean it works for all.  Using it as my primary no-cat card since my PenFed 2% card currently has a BT on it for the next 10-11 months.

Fidelity has $50 min but not $50 increments (can redeem any amount over $50)

I know the Fidelity $50 redemption.  But I do not like any high maintenence cards other than the few hotel/airline cards I need to babysit.  The good thing is that most of the hotel points or airline miles won't expire as long as you get the CCs open.

I always have some SUB spending to do.  So have not had much need for non-category spending.  I may activate the Fidelity card after SPG cards get converted.  The good thing is that the points do not expire.  I can just run $2,500 to get $50 cash back and redeem it.

Didn't think DC had an expiration on rewards... Guess time to read my T&C's although won't be an issue for me for now

It certainly did. Some people, including me did not even know.

Re: Converting Citi Double Cash

You need to make 1 redemption each year.  (25$ in a year -- $1250 spend a year)

(Edited I am in error here)

If you can't use it enough to reach 25$ you don't need it. &

They don't want you keep it for just zero balance offers.

This is good to know. I dont like the $25 minimum to redeem and most likely will sd it after I redeem after next statement cut. Citi doesn't want to give me any sp cli anyway so if they close it so be it. That's why we have multiple cc's Smiley Wink

If you didn't have multiple cc's it wouldn't be an issue  Smiley Very Happy

That's not correct.  Below is copied from the Citi® Double Cash Card Terms & Conditions:

Cash Rewards Expiration: Your cash rewards balance will expire if you have not earned any cash back from purchases or payments for 12 months.

My Double Cash is my only 2% card and I use it every month, so the rewards expiration thing isn't an issue for me.  It sounds like the OP got lucky to have Citi reinstate their rewards.

IMO, a much better sock drawer card is one that doesn't have a redemption threshold and also one where the rewards don't expire (e.g. the Quicksilver).
