I called this morning and closed my $300 Credit One Visa a month before the annual fee hit. It's funny, 11 months ago when I started my build I was thrilled to be approved for that card lol!!
For me it was definitely worth it to deal with them and their fees, to get my build rolling but I am so glad to know that it's now closed. I requested a letter showing it has been 'closed by consumer', in good standing with a zero balance. I will continue to check it for the next few cycles to make sure it stays at zero. The agent said I will have the letter within 10 days.
I will miss having to get a code sent everytime I log on from the laptop I have registered a million times , a 7 day delay in updating available credit after a payment unless I pay $9.95 for expedited processing
and the 'important document waiting- open immediately' emails that want to let me know I can add an authorized user lol
!! Somehow, I'll try to get over it!!
Happy Tuesday everyone!! Thanks for all you do in the community!!
UPDATE June 16th: So my statement cut a few days ago and there was a trailing $1.30 in interest. The rep told me on June 2nd when I closed the account that the last payment included the interest and that my account was paid in full. Wrong. Paid the $1.30 and will continue to check to make sure there isn't anything else. All my reports are showing closed by consumer so that part is done. I just wanted to update this in case anyone else is closing Credit One. Please keep checking because it's not over till it's over. I would hate to think that someone missed the final payment of trailing interest and they got hit with a late for a buck.
I know those "perks" you are accustomed to will be sorely missed. Hopefully better credit lines, better rewards, and that weird grace period thing where you don't start paying interest on day 1 for new purchases will help you get over it. 😉
You really did (and plan to do) everything right with closing this. Congrats on outgrowing it and glad to hear that while they may not be the ideal cards long-term, you got exactly what you needed from it.
What is this grace period you speak of?? LOL!!
Thank you and I owe all my first year success to the gurus of this community such as yourself. I have read a zillion of your posts and it has been such a remarkable learning experience.
Now that CreditOne is gone, I have been blessed to establish $31K in new cards between Navy, Cap One, Discover, Redstone FCU and Citi. I have started to enjoy my time in the garden and the best part of not looking for any new accounts right now is that I have plenty of time to read the forum and cheer the success of others!!
Have a great day ahead @K-in-Boston !!
@Anonymous Congrats on using Credit One as a stepping stone for your intended purpose,
I am sure it will be greatly missed from your CC line up
"Somehow, I'll try to get over it!!"
Hooray for your rebuild success!
Congrats @Anonymous! Moving on up!
You used Credit One for exactly what it should be used for - to get your "foot in the door" just long enough to get some better cards, then close it. You're doing all the right things so far, keep it up!
