Re: Credit One trying to move up

I would not get Credit One if they offer X15.

Re: Credit One trying to move up

I won't be getting one of these but it was good to see that, at least for the Wander, they give you a grace period before charging interest.  So they are getting away from some of the typical Credit One actions.

Is there any specific reason why you wouldn't. Do they balance chase hard core or something? No fraud protection?

10x for travel and 5x on dining for a $95 AF sound better than a Venture X when you consider how limited their travel partners actually are.

I think the no grace period thing is on a per application basis w/them. I don't think any of their cards outright just don't have a grace period for everybody.

Re: Credit One trying to move up

I personally have two of their cards.  They got me going.  I had one of their cards in 2006 before I lost my job and took ANOTHER FINANCIAL HIT.  I defaulted on their card and no matter how much I was trying to rebuild, they wouldn't let me back in.  I stayed away from credit for quite some time and eventually came back to them in 2019.  They were one of only TWO creditors who would grant me credit at that time so I took them. They gave me the first card with a $500 limit and a $99 annual fee (paid monthly) I paid the bills every month (never going over the limits) and the annual fee (which I accepted because I KNEW I was in the doghouse in terms of my credit and I had to pay the piper). They later offered, and approved, another card with NO annual fee and a higher credit limit ($2,000), which I accepted. I closed the first account and kept the second. In the three years I have been dealing with them, I have had to call their customer service only three times (because of their website experience issues when I wanted to pay the bills online). That's it.  So, I've had good experiences with them.

They JUST sent me offers for the Wander and x5 cards, which I won't accept because of the low limits being offered and the annual fee associated with the cards ($95 for each card, scores have risen significantly since that time, and I have other credit goals I'd like to achieve--having several cards just isn't my thing). If you need to use them, use them. Everyone has to analyze their own situations and decide accordingly.  If I HAD to start again, they would probably be where I'd go first based on MY experience with them.

Re: Credit One trying to move up

Okay, here's the deal.  I once had a bankruptcy many year ago back in 2001, because twentysomething me was a fool with credit.  Credit One helped me rebuild my credit and for that I will be forever greatful.  Credit One cards are a great choice for certain people, mainly those who are trying to rebuild their credit.  Right now I would not personally get a card from them, but those that are bashing Credit One and saying they "suck" are straight-up a$$holes!  Everyone's situation is different!

Recently saw an ad for a new card from Credit One, the Wander, and noticed it looked very much like a quasi-prime card. Looked at the Credit One site and while their overall offerings are still pretty meh, it appears that they are attempting to make some moves. Overall, nothing remarkable and I am not running out to replace any cards but it is nice to see them trying to move up a bit. I was never one that hated on them, after my BK they served a purpose and when I moved on I cancelled and have nothing bad to say about them. Just a few of their newer offerings (or maybe older and I am way late to the party lol)

Thanks for posting this, OP.

Generally, a variety of folks are going to continually bash them for their own reasons, and there will be others who are grateful for providing a pathway to better products given the alternatives, especially for folks who had to rebuild from scratch.

I've never had any of their cards, but it seems they are attempting to get a good share of the not-so-perfect-credit market by providing more flexible CC products with rewards and even some without annual fees. Bottom line, Credit One is not for everyone and folks can make informed choices on other products, but for those who have been provided a stepping stone of some form in their credit journey, seems like a step in the right direction. I mean, if they can collaborate with a well-known entity like American Express to reach different customer segments, more power to them.

Sounds like an employee of Credit One  selling line ..No..A terrible card that  ...No bashing.... just honest assessments   of their customers  experiences

You're rebuilding, so clearly someone didn't get paid.

Not necessarily, I had an Auto Loan from 2007-2012 and never did anything with my good credit from it. Until 2022 when I got my first CC and by that time I no longer had a credit score of any kind.

In regards to CreditOne .. No, everyone's situation is not different...Imagine  CreditOne charging $20   for a $200 credit limit increase..Annual fees atop ...highest Interest rates vs  rivals .. except 1st Premier Customer .Cards like Wander with smaller CLs yet high AF...If you need the  card .. get one .. but better for finanical health to dump  Creditone quickly....bashing cards?... better to transmit info so others don't have to  suffer experience poor experiences ..Good feeling to have left them...for Chase ,Citi....
