- I read on the forum that USAA is changing their policy to graduate the secured AmEx to an unsecured version.
- My Macy's card is a retail store card and not the AmEx version (I may look to upgrade if it's a SP).
- My Experian CR is lower because they are not reporting a CU credit card that was a BT; according to EX, I was told that they can't add the trade line and the original creditor would need to report it. I am going to look into that further. That's the only difference in the three CRA's reporting.
- I will leave the Chase card alone and due to the account age.
- I will try the 3x CLI on my Amex on day 91.
- I will try a for CLI with Navy Federal the day after my third statement.
- I will also check Chase and NFCU for any preapprovals (if they will be a SP); Chase probably won't but I will look into it.
The Macy store card to Amex upgrade will pop up in your online Macy's credit card account. My wife's popped up after she had her store card for a few years.
Both the Chase and Navy Federal preapprovals are SP. The link for Chase can be found on a couple of threads. It hasn't worked for me yet. I guess they are still remembering I burned them in my bankruptcy. The link for Navy Federal is on the credit card page. I got a HP when I got my Flagship Visa approved through the link. My wife only got a SP when she got the cash rewards. I will tell you upfront that Navy Federal has a limit for the amount of unsecured credit each member has. I know I exceeded mine when I tried the 3xCLI trick. It's all good because I use it only work and travel expenses where they don't take Amex.

Just for clarification - running the pre-approval tool is SP, submitting the application would result in a HP for either Chase or NFCU. Additionally, the NFCU pre-qualification portal is not reliable/solid as per several threads/DPs throughout the forums.
Whenever I try the NFCU portal it yields pre-approved offers for cards I already have 🤷♂️
Finstar,
I wanted to clarify with NFCU, it can be hit or miss. I got hit with a HP for mine. My wife did not for hers, and we both have separate memberships. I know she didn't get a HP because I check her credit regularly after I check mine.

@Anonymous wrote:Well I hate to say it, but somebody has to: apping for too many cards too quickly or apping regularly and racking up too many new accounts or inquiries can also lead to lower starting CLs for many profiles.
Of course the debate on what "too many" or "too quickly" is rages, but I definitely believe a little patience can assist.
I resemble that remark

You can have 2 of the same card as long as you don't go over 3 total m8

True, especially that elusive 4th 🌈🦄 m8. Except, I'm already at max exposure so their pre-qualification engine shouldn't suggest or yield anything else if it was truly accurate 😬

Every bank and profile and relationship is different.
At one time I had $85k available from 3 Cap One cards.
Others may never get to $5k with the Cap One.
My 3rd card from Navy had a SL of $1k and it won't budge.
I can't get a Chase or BOA card at any limit.
Its all about patience and building your profile intelligently.
This forum has a ton of helpful information and members.
Just the other week, someone posted about FNBO prequal.
Bam! There's another $15k card I added to my aresenal.
GL!

@babygirl1256 wrote:@FinStar you are not hijacking my thread at all and I welcome the comments. I never thought about it; but I'm sure you are correct on my Chase CL and there's probably not much of an incentive for Chase to yield a CLI since my spending on the card is very nominal. I will certainly look into having my Slate card switched to either the Freedom Unlimited or the Freedom Flex. I've never considered that as an option due to the potential of a HP and Chase's 5/24 rule (right now I'm at 2/24 with new cards and 3/24 with HP inquiries). You've provided great information and I truly appreciate it!
No problem, anytime.
Just FYI - look at which card makes more sense rewards-wise for your spending and the network -- Freedom Unlimited is issued as Visa, Freedom Flex is MC. Then, you can call them to make the switch. There is no HP involved for the PC. Your account number might change, but it will not report as a new account + you'll retain the ~11 year history on your reports.
The only downside is giving up any sign up bonus for the Freedom cards (which can be big). Personally, I would probably leave the Slate as is (and maybe not spend on it) and at some point, when I don't mind the HP, just app for whichever Freedom card makes sense.
I've had an 1k Amex ED/EDP card for 4 years. Turned down for a 3xCLI on Feb 10. Since then got a Gold and a 5k Delta Reserve, also a Navy Signature Visa 5k.
I've been putting big spending through the EDP card, now that pressure is off because of the new accounts, but I'd still like to crack that 1k limit on the original card. You'd think if they trust me with 5k on the Delta and a 25k initial SL on the Gold, they would part with another couple of thou on the EDP. Somehow though, I'm not optimistic. What do you guys think? I'm going to app in about a week.
