Gosh you people are vitriolic!  I will definitely be more cautious with posting here and go back to reading ...

"playing a victim" - REALLY???  I found this out at 10:00 PM last night (when I logged in to pay the darn bill!) and when I called they said I had to speak to someone in lending this morning at 8:00 so I DID ON MY WAY TO A BRANCH.

Jeez.  Talk about an overreaction.

I love Chase.  And I'd understand if ANY bank or CU wouldn't want to extend me more credit, because I have plenty.

I'm Sorry - you would understand if you randomly logged in to pay your bill to discover you account closed????

I didn't ask for additional credit and nothing has changed so quite literally they have randomly just closed down my credit lines with them.  I too loved Chase until last night when - without notice, they closed my credit acccounts for not a lot of reason and no real risk involved - none that could even be clarified by their own employees.

Some people operate more on principals then others and I happen to be one of those people.  Sorry if you don't subscribe to that rule of thinking and sorry if you think I am overreacting when people say I am "playing a victim" - I take that extremely offensively and responded accordingly.  To each their own.

I was referring to your comment accusing  those responding to you ("you people") of vitriol. That's hardly happened here.

Clearly, Chsae was spooked.  You now know why, and IMO, their reasoning (too much credit/credit seeking) was understandable.

Re: DO NOT apply for Anything with CHASE

I suppose they may have mailed you further information on the credit card account closures but I'm with you OP. Business is business and if they do not meet your personal requirements for good service/practice take your hard-earned money and move on.

Your warning is duly noted (I don't intend to bank with Citi either based on their outright lies wrt to my DC card). Also, there's no need to be so abrasive with the OP Smiley Very Happy

Must be the type B person I am.   I just don't let this stuff work me into a frenzy.  I understand it's their sandbox, so they get to make the rules, if I  wanna play, I comply,or I go to another playground.  Same if they ask me to leave.  I gather my toys (in this case your money) and go down the street.  In this case you're the guy telling all the other kids not to play in the chase sandbox.  Now I don't have much compared to most around here, but some here do a lotta business with chase, so before they pick up their toys they wanna know why.

now if you go to chase office jumping up and down making demands, and I'm the guy other other side of the desk, I'm prolly gonna hurt your feelings.  You are owed a explanation for sure but not much more than that.

Valid point.

I could understand if Chase sent a communication asking for financial documents, for a review (similar to AMEX). In this case, OP wasn't asking for new credit or CLI from Chase, and it's not the case that OP was opening new accounts left, right, and center.

Also, over the past couple of weeks, many members of this community are responding to a poster's problem by first saying, "You must have done something wrong. Are you sure you haven't dome something wrong? You must have because the big banks are wonderful."

This behavior is neither friendly, nor supportive, and not at all respectful. Yes, many members here did simply ask OP to not make a rash decision and wait until a banker or lending CSR could clarify things. However, given how banks communicate such things, I wasn't really hopeful about getting a clear message. As others have mentioned, often the banks simply say "security", "credit issues", etc. However, some of the other members simply seem to push OP (and some other previous posters) to a corner, citing their love for whichever lender is in question.

Please remember that banks do, have done, and will be doing mistakes. Countless articles about wrongful foreclosures can be found online; so yes, they have a proven history of pushing customers out when the customers were not at all at fault.

This is not a banking community. The FSR policy here applies to members, who are customers of banks. So yes, your particular bank may be wonderful to you, but it is very much possible that it has wronged another member. Instead of pointing fingers at the member, it will be more helpful to offer neutral advice; even if it means taking away business from your favorite bank.

THANK YOU!  I do greatly appreciate the support Smiley Happy

I read an article on Yahoo news recently - will have to pull it back up and try it find it - some new regulation about how banks were going to be regulated on "cash" accounts - this in no way effects me - I am no where near big enough, it is for more investment type hedge fund business accounts I suspect, but it had to do with banks like Chase and all informing those customers they would no longer be able to service them for "free" or would be servicing them for outragious type fees etc because of new banking regulations and how they are supposed to be rated for solvency ..... or something to that effect.  Maybe there is more at work here.

Again - what credit seeking?  I have not been seeking credit.  I guess you have read bits and pieces and not what really went on.

I did not apply for new credit.  I did not apply for any CLI with Chase.  I don't have a single new Inquiry on my Credit report.  I did nothing but log online to pay my bill on an account that has been open for quite some time that is linked to a checking account that has been open since 2008 to find it closed with no notice.  This is an account that I have paid in full many times and always at minimum over paid.  This is a bank, I keep a good deal of money with and do a great deal of business with.  I then found out, they closed my business cards as well.  The only change on my credit report - which I just pulled all 3 again - is my CLI with NFCU in October - which was a soft pull.  Is that your version of "credit seeking"?  It isn't as if I went on some app spree or something.  I guess I'm lost.

Well, in this case it sounds like the guy on the other side of the desk was equally surprised by the decision.   Yes, OP got annoyed and maybe a bit of hyperbole, but hardly the first person to get upset by AA from an issuer.

And, while no-one knows the details, it sounds like this was an algorithmically ordered closure, rather than any "wrong-doing" by OP.   So moving to the new sandbox is what is going to happen, and, instead of thinking of it as order "No more business with Chase for anyone", think of it as "This happened to me, maybe you should be cautous with Chase", again in line with huge numbers of posts here, much with much less justification (X didn't give me a CLI so they are the most evil bank in the world and will go to hell) type of thing.

Re: DO NOT apply for Anything with CHASE

What are the ages of all your accounts? Could they mean too much credit over short period of time? Or too much credit for stated income?

Re: DO NOT apply for Anything with CHASE

Greyarea37, what is your largest credit limit with chase? I frequently apply for applications and I am slowly approaching 500k lines of credit excluding business accounts, and to be honest I spend 10-20k at least on chase each month. 90%of my accounts are unused and trust me when I say, I have way too much available credit. This thread definitely raises awareness.

Lastly what is your total utilization across all card accounts?
