I've been looking for a travel card and have narrowed it down ti these two. Both fit my spend very well and perks/credits ln both are equally usable for me(I already have dashpass and order in several times a week). I looked at travel partners to see if that would sway me in one direction but again, both are good for me. I'm not much of a hotel person so Hyatt isn't as much of a factor for me, and I know that is a big draw for a lot of people. I live in a city with three pretty large airports(hubs are AA, jet blue, UA)so having a hub isn't such a big deal. I don't really fly domestically and mostly travel internationally, I might prefer paying for any domestic flights in cash and use the points for international flights. Priority pass is very tempting for long layovers abroad and I planned on getting Global entry anyway. I made a spreadsheet of my spend and how many points I'd earn on the cards both individually and with their ecosystems, and I'd earn more on the VX. However the flexibility of points with Chase is also nice.
The thing is, it's been smack dab in the middle in terms of which CC id like to get/which works for me. Now, I'm leaning towards Venture X, but during my credit journey(went from a 540 credit score to an 800 credit score, thanks to this sub!) it had always been on my mind to get a more premium travel card, specifically CSP(and maybe upgrade to the CSR one day). Y'all know how grueling the credit journey is and how long it takes. Since it was one of my 'goals' to get this card once my credit was repaired, I feel like im having a hard time 'letting go' of the idea of having the CSP. It's totally not logical, and the VX eeks out the CSP a bit, but I've noticed it's definitely something that's happening in my subconscious.
I already have it in mind that if I get the VX, I might get the CSP anyway to see if I can get approved/check it off the list/see how I like it 😅
Additionally there's also the factor of, I burned Chase back in 2014 for a 1k charge off and I have no idea if they'd let me back in. Data points are all over with that. So I also have this curiosity of, would they even approve me? Should I try just to see? this is also very much a worm niggling around in my brain. Anyway, I don't even know why I'm posting this, if I'm looking for feedback or advice or what. But maybe some of you can relate? Or is there something between these cards I may not be considering?
Try the preapproved for cap one to see if the venture x option shows up. You would be best to apply for the venture x first on the belief that cap one does not want to see a whole bunch of competitors
