I just recieved a letter dencling me a Discover It card. I was kind of dreaming about being approved but have been working hard on credit.
The letter says, "we are unable to approve your request at the time;
Bankruptcy (9.5 years old when I was 19 and stupid)
Collection or charge off
fico score 660
key factos that affected my score:
serious deliuquency or public record or collection filed
loan balences to loan amount to high (I am repaying student loans)
lenght of time accounts have been established
Too many inquires last 12 months
It says if I have any questions I may contact a credit analsy. My odds of reconing this would be slim to none right? Wait till bk falls off and I take care of collections is the obvious answer but man I just cant accept it lol. Thanks for the help.

no i would call... always... and i feel like the bk that close is not the issue.
Thanks for the reply! I am assuming because on the first page Bankruptcy is listed first maybe the system auto denied me?
But I also have 3 charge off/ collection type remarks on my report from 2008 and 2010. I think the collections are my downfall.
Excellent payment history with other cards for the past 3 years and curent utilization is around 26% across all my cards.

These are the primary reasons everything else is a small factor. Give call as credit addict says.

Thanks for the advice! I am just unsure what to say about the unpaid collection. It is over 3 years old and still reporting every month.
It can continue to report until it's paid.
Pulling for ya and hope that they can overturn the decision, but Discover is one of those hard lenders to crack. Be prepared to answer all those questions promptly if they ask any. In my experience with Discover recon has been pretty tough, they ALWAYS told me that they don't recon any denials asking me to try again in 30-60days.
Best of luck and keep us updated on the outcome, very interested in how it turns out.
Thanks for everyone's advice. I called them and I they said it would require a hard pull. Man, I should have known better and immediately said forget it because I do not need another inquiry. I though but at least I can explan to them anything negative on my report. I had the report they pulled out and was ready for any questions.
The gentleman came back after two minutes and said sorry we can not approve you due to the 9.5 year old bankruptcy and allowed me zero room to talk about anything positive I have been doing, blah blah.
So my luck is not good. I am going to just focus on paying down all debt and not apping for at least a year ![]()
thanks for all the advice, I appreciate it your time
Stories like this just blow my mind. I'm sorry to hear about your experience with Discover. I find this so hard to comprehend because I was approved for a Discover IT at only 2 years 11 months out of BK7. I only got a $1000 limit but approval none the less. Maybe try to revisit Discover after your BK falls off, see if that truly helps.

OP may have had a chance if the COs weren't on his reports. Discover can be forgiving but if you have bad after bad reporting they will put on their conservative hat. It's like, the person had a clean slate with the bk and still didn't learn his/her lesson.
