Discover Auto-CLI: How does it work?

I'm coming up on my third month with Discover. How do these work? If you qualify, does it happen automatically after the third statement cuts? Or is there some link on the main page you can click? Also, I know this is a YMMV thing, but generally how much do the people spend on their card per month (for the people who have gotten the auto-CLI)? I think I'm at about $580 average spend on a $7,500 CL.

Re: Discover Auto-CLI: How does it work?

You can either do it via their site or you can call the number on the back of your card and go thru automated prompts to check if you can get an sp cli.

On the website its under credit options, there should be an selection request credit increase or something to that effect.

IIRC, I didn't get my first auto CLI until shortly after my 4th statement. I charged quite a bit the first few months and always carried a balance since I wanted to take advantage of the 0% promo. You may want to look for the Luv button after your 3rd statement, it will warn you if they need a HP before you submit the request.

Spend doesn't guarantee a CLI with any creditor.  It may help but it's not the only factor at play.

Re: Discover Auto-CLI: How does it work?

Discover is my everyday spend card, I carry about 40-50%  on it monthly and I always have some balance reporting after payment.  Since I got the card, I have had an auto CLI every Quarter.  As a posted said above, carrying does not garantee a auto CLI.

The month the cli happens the account is not reported again for another quarter to the CRA's.  For instance my last reporting date and CLI was on my statement dated 4/26/14.  I don't expect another update until Beginning of August if the trend continues.  I noticed this on my last review of my reports.

I didnt have an everyday spend before I was approved for this card, it is a great card I earn $ every month and I use it to buy on amazon, something within the cash back range so I dont actually spend anything on my freebee.  This card is my highest reporting balance, all others are kept below the 30% margin and most are reporting 0 if not 10% or so.  CS is always between 685-710.

Honestly, I dont think it would be growing like this if I wasnt carrying and using nearly half the CL.  Dont like to do that as a rule, but this card is an independent and they are most likely not to extend if they dont see use and frequently because they are such a small subset financially.  They used to be part of Dean Witter, however in 2007 they went Indy.  They support themselves essentially these days.    APR is their bread and butter, and thus they most likely calculate their earnings with monthly spend projections.  100% US based Customer service when  I call in I frequently get AZ or UT call center, rarely if ever am I on hold.

YMMV as always.

Re: Discover Auto-CLI: How does it work?

Spend did not trigger an auto CLI for me. Had used up to 90% of my 2,5K CL and PIF for over a year and nothing. Also SP requests were unsuccessful. Looks to me time was the only thing that got me the positive results. No auto luv so far but requests for SP CLI got approved at 15 months mark and 18 months mark. 2,5K - 5K - 7,5K in 18 months and in the last 3 months 5K increase. So it will be strong YMMV Smiley Happy .. Good luck!

i am having love hate with my IT recently pertaining to sp cli lol. I should just stay out off approval forums, because when i read that people are getting sp cli every three months with scores in the sub700 range, it gets me pretty annoyed when i can't get one sp cli in 10+ months. I was going to try and decide by end of the year what i want to do with my discover if i don't get any kind of sp cli.

Have you tried reaching out to the executive office?  It worked for me with Cap One, and I helped my mom resolve a security issue with her Discover that way recently.  Send them a Facebook message and the EO will reply pretty quickly.
