Discover Blacklist Wait time

I've been spinning the wheels on the Discover Prequalification hoping for a prequal offer, but most results say:

Thank you for your interest in Discover®. Unfortunately, at this time we are not able to provide you an offer due to the following:

STATUS OF EXISTING / PRIOR DISCOVER CARD ACCOUNT

Rest assured, your request did not impact your credit score.

You can submit another request eight days from the date of this letter.

The account was opened in 2017 and closed by Discover in 2018 with a $200 balance that I paid to $0 as soon as I realized the account status in April 2018.  Between being diagnosed with a medical issue during my last pregnancy things got behind.

With that being said, is there a minimum amount of time that Discover is going to leave the door closed?

Re: Discover Blacklist Wait time

I don't think there's a set amount of time.  That's not just with Discover, but many lenders that get burned seem to be all over the place as far as when they'll entertain a new relationship.  I see it as being very inconsistent for each lender, so it would be impossible to nail down a solid answer for you.

On a side note, have you done anything to try and fix that negative mark on your previous account with them?  Since you've paid it off you may as well make some GW requests, which you can do via phone call, email or snail mail.  If they agree to eliminate the negative information not only would it likely open the door with Discover again for you, but you could see improvements to your Fico scores depending on the rest of your profile.

Re: Discover Blacklist Wait time

I don't see how GW request, even if successful would improve OPs chances of approval.

Removal from CR would have no effect on internal records, which are forever plus a couple of weeks.

If we are talking about CO here, Discover will not remove it.

Re: Discover Blacklist Wait time

I burnt discover among many other banks during the 2009/2010 financial crisis.

about 4 years ago, they granted my new card with SL of 5K.

Anytime I apply for CLI - i get that message "status of existing/previous bla bla bla "  -- lol

then I called CS and spoke to higher level guy - he said I burnt discover 11K arount 2010.

I explained that the issue then was systemic - not just me - the entire country was in recession and the banks were basically in big trouble too

He said I can try in future, but for now they can't grant me any increase

after having the card for about 3 years, I decided to close it.

I hardly use the card and I only want to keep cards with very high limit

I am still grateful to them for still considering me and granting me a card

Similar situation and timeframe for me but a much smaller CO on previous Discover Card.  In 2014 they gave me a new card with $1000 CL. All increase requests are denied with same language you describe.

However when I spoke to an upper level person at Discover he strongly hinted that things might change after 10 years on my current card.

I am curious to see if he's correct. So I've sockdrawered it with calendar reminders to put a bit of spend on it now and then. Late next year or early 2022 I'll see if the 10 year timeframe is accurate, just for data points.

Discover Pre-Approval

I had a charge off with discover back in 2017 and I paid it in full in early 2019. I am wondering when does discover usually let you get another card with them. Every time I try and pre-qualify i always get the message unable to pre-qualify you due to prior/existing discover card. I just got back in with capital one so now I'm just wondering when Discover will give me another chance?

Re: Discover Pre-Approval

That's the million-dollar question. I had a Discover card with a $0 balance that I closed right when I filed BK just over 3 years ago....each time I do the prequal, I get the "status of account/prior relationship" blah blah blah message.

Re: Discover Pre-Approval

As with their cli, Discover is very much YMMV lender as some have gotten back in super quick with big limits while others languish for years. The only way to know where you stand is periodically make an actual application.

Prequals are nice and usually solid but are not 100% gaurenteed approval as evidenced but some who still get rejected.  Even happens with Amex. If hps dont scare you, put out a feeler whenever you feel you can afford to possibly lose one.

Re: Discover Pre-Approval

I got an invitation 6 weeks ago from Discover.  Decided to take my UTI down before applying.  The pulled Exquifax which for some reason besides a decrease in UTI my score had gone down 11 points to 702 two days prior to applying.  I've got 2 of the only 3 derogatory acocunts are going go past the 7-year roll off this month or next month.  Since the discover app I got a CLI on my USAA and on my Synchrony Amazone Store card taking my total credit from $5,500 to $11,500 so my UTIL will go from 25% to 8% next month.  Hopefully that combined with one more derog accounts rolling off I figure my Experian score would be closer to the 735-750 range and I'll re-apply then.  I've been eyeballing the chase freedom but one of the derog accounts that's going to remain for a couple more years is Chase and I've gathered the average APR is typically a lot lower on the Discover and credits limits a lot higher or CLI's a lot easier on the Discover than the Chase Freedom.    I could try for Chase that would put 3 HPs on Experian in 24 months and 3 new accounts in the past 24 months but just seems DIscover is the beter way to go.

So in a nutshell I am one of those that can confirm Discover says pre-qual invites to those that are 'borderline' and don't count on getting approved.

As from the small HP hit, does Discover ignore apps within a certain time period because they are to close and just revert to the previous deicsion?
