Does anyone know exactly how often you can request a cli from discover without a hard pull? I thought it was 6 months...my last increase thru the automated system over the phone was in October. Yesterday I was curious so I tried again and it worked! it gave me a 750.00 increase. So, I'm wondering what the exact timeline is between cli requests so I know when to ask again.
Thanks everyone!

Congrats on your recent CLI. When did you open the account? You shoud be eligible for a CLI's from Discover every three months during the first year of opening an account. If your account started with a high credit line, it would be every six months or once per year.

Thanks for the reply. I opened my discover card sometime in 2007...not sure of the exact month, I think maybe September? Anyways, it started with a 1,000 limit...raised numerous times throughout the past few years and was at 4,100 yesterday prior to my request for a cli...now its 4,850. So it should be every 6 months? Thats what I thought but I was confused because I just asked for a cli in october and was granted one then, too.Message Edited by mgs2010 on 02-14-2010 03:24 PM
It won't hurt to keep checking for a CLI every three months via the automation system only. It won't result in a hard inquiry.

It's been over a year for me since my last increase and I still am not eligible when I try the automated phone system. I don't think any of these 3 months/6 months rules are accurate. I've seen others post that it hasn't worked for them either and still many people insist there is a schedule for regular CLI with Discover. I don't think so.
Speaking for myself, I get my CLI's every three months. I opened my card July 2009. First increase was October. Second incease was January. My third increase is scheduled for April and final increase before going to a yearly increase will be in July.
Discover advised me upon opening my account, I would be getting CLI's every three months. They kept their word.
3 months is always a no-go for me - 6-9 months is the norm. (I always try after 3, and never ever get one. )
FICOs in the 790s, <7%util, current CL $8k
It's definitely a ymmv thing.

Hmm. Strange. Ficos are mid 700's across the board, no lates ever, no negatives at all... I don't know why I'm not feeling the love from them. Oh well. I just realized that on the 14th the statement cut that would have made it a full year of statements since my last increase. I'll give the automated system a try again and see what it says now. If that doesn't work, then I have no idea what the deal is. Maybe I don't use it enough. I do use it monthly, but put most of my spending through my Chase Freedom Plus card for the cash back. (Not for long though, since they charged me interest even though I paid in full BEFORE the statement...grace period is only 21 days it said on my statement. WTH? So, after 3 weeks I get whacked with interest? I'm mad at them now.)

I don't think I've charged no more than $200 on the card. I keep the charges low, so I can afford to PIF. Lack of usage isn't underlying factor that prohibits one from getting CLI's. Discover looks at one's entire credit history and all the lines and credit reporting on one's reports.
