Re: Discover Interest Free Period Running Out

So I've been thinking about this some more.

What do you all think about the Chase Slate card.  In your experience would it be worth applying for to transfer my Discover balance to for their 0% interest offer?  In the event I was approved that is.  Is it hard to get approved for that one?

Ask Discover if they can extend the promo. If they can, then its not necessary for you to open a new account.

Otherwise, you can always apply for the Slate. You can also consider the Simplicity or the Citi Diamond Prefered (both have 18 months 0% APR).

Eventually, you should work on paying down your balances though.

Paying down my balances is something I do religiously.  I owe nothing at all on any of my cards except the Discover. It's the only one I've carried a balance on in over 2 years and it's been at 0%. Smiley Happy  I only have a $1,400 balance on it and could pay that off in one fail swoop, but was hoping not to. Just wanted to try to space it out a little longer considering the move I'm fixing to make. Maybe I'll try something with Citi since I've not built a relationship with that bank yet. I do get offers from them all the time.  I appreciate the recommendations. Smiley Wink

EDIT: Oh meant to add, I did contact Discover about extending the promo and they said they couldn't and checked for other offers but nothing useful came up except a balance transfer offer, but I didn't have any balances to transfer except the one on the Discover...lol

You know, you're right enharu.  The more I think about it the more it makes sense to just pay off the balance and move forward.  I've been all worried about spooking my creditors so probably the last thing I need to do is prolong this balance on the Discover and just go ahead and pay it off. Would certainly be better than adding another inquiry or account to my report right now.

Thanks for the push, it was almost like an "I Dare You to Pay Off That Balance!"  Smiley Very Happy

glad that worked out for you Smiley Tongue grats!

I thought your balances were higher, but since it's just 1400, you are better off paying it, and then apply for a 0% promo card with rewards, and then charge 1400 worth of bills or expenses on that new card. At least you get some additional rewards out of it and don't have to pay any BT fees as well.

Very true, sounds like a much better plan....Preciate the help.  I've been pretty interested in the Sallie Mae MC, especially since I don't have a MC anymore after canceling my Cap1 Secured.

if you are looking for just Mastercards in general, you can consider applying for Citi cards as well too.

The TY Prefered comes in MC variations as well, and if you apply in a branch, the TY Premier comes as a World Elite MC by default (but there's no 0% promo for the Premier).
