Discover It - Low Initial CL

I just applied for the Discover It and was instantly approved. I called in to find out my CL and it's $2K. That bums me out. I'd been hoping for closer to $5K.

My credit score is 760 (Equifax, through MyFICO). I have a $5K Chase Freedom, $6K Barclay Rewards, and $10K PayPal Smart Connect, all with $0 balances. (Those 3 cards are my non-store cards.) I did max out my Amazon.com store card (85% of a $4K CL) to take advantage of financing, but other than that, I'm not carrying any balances on any other cards. My income is just shy of 6 digits.

Should I attempt a recon? I've browsed the forum and a positive recon seems highly unlikely. Are low initial CLs with Discover the norm?

Lately it seems that way

Congrats on the approval

Try a recon when card arrives good luck

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: Discover It - Low Initial CL

Discover is somewhat conservative for most people. You could call in and try recon for a CLI. Some people were able to get their limits raised that way.

Re: Discover It - Low Initial CL

Discover can be conservative with the initial CL's. the high util may have been the cause of your low CL. I'd use it and ask for a CLI in 3 mos.

+1

AND unlike most other cards, Discover likes to see you carry a balance.

Re: Discover It - Low Initial CL

Discover started me out at $4k :-/...

I did get a $750 cli at six months. It seems that Discover gives small clis via sp pretty regularly every six months and maybe will give a larger cli for a hp.
Just use it a little and wait six months! Haha
