Applied for Discover It today and got instant approval online.
However, the limit they set me up with is $1,000 which would be my lowest limit card.
I'm happy I got approved but at the sametime pretty disappointed I couldn't get a higher limit.
I called the backdoor number and spoke with someone I doubt is based in the US and they pretty much didn't budge on the credit limit and told me I should call back in 6 months and said they might maybe consider increasing the limit.
I heard a lot of good things about Discover but this card is likely gonna stay in the sock drawer.
Just in case, I called 888-676-3695
Has anyone else had success in getting a limit increase right after approval with Discover with a different number? Any advice is appreciated.
It will grow with you

Discover is known for low balling you on starting CL.
Yeah...I can second this. I really don't understand what the big deal about Discover is...they aren't as widely accepted as Visa, MasterCard, and even American Express. I don't find the rewards and cash back all that great either (but I guess that is partial to the type of shopper/spender you are). I got a Discover card a while back and when I got it I already had a couple of cards with decently high limits...one was over $10,000. When I was approved, they only gave me $2,000 and the interest rate was higher compared to my other cards (I don't really care about APR since I normally pay my balance every month). The cash back and rewards were comparable to my then Chase Freedom card (whose limit was higher and APR was lower).
So, I just decided to close it and when they asked me why I was closing it I just flat out told them that the credit line wasn't high enough and the rewards and cash back didn't really stand out to another card I had and whose limit and APR were better.

Discover is 100% based in the USA
^Yeah. I think you should try the number on the back of the card instead of the backdoor number. When I called Discover yesterday to activate my card, they had by far the friendliest, perkiest, cheerful customer service Rep I've ever spoken to.
Seriously, the guy actually sounded like he loved doing his job. A rarity in the credit card customer service field based on my experience.

That's interesting. When I called in, it was an asian lady that had a very heavy accent.
I applied because I heard the CS was great and also some sites I shop on have benefits for Discover card users.
Will probably use this card specifically wherever I can get 5% cash back.

Use the shop discover link from your account to get even better deals I have gotten up to 15x miles on purchase before with my Escape by going thru Shop discover. I have gotten into the habit now where if i find something online that I want to purchase lets say from Best Buy, I log onto Discover.com and do a merchant search for best buy to see if they have any promotions running. This is in addition to my 2x miles with every purchase that Escape offers. Most deals are for double mile but with a double mile card that 4x and in addition there is usually free shipping and other perks. Every once in awhile there will be a spectaculor deal like 10x 15x and even with just the double rewards when you throw in free shipping or additional discounts Discover has saved me more money then my Chase 5% card on some transactions.
I think it was JoS Banks that had the 15x at one time. I spent like 500.00 got free shipping 4 free shirts 4 free pairs of slacks and almost 9000 miles from one purchase I guess they lost their shirt in that promotion(pun intended) because I have never seen it again from them but I keep looking.

English may not be her first language, but that CSR is based in the U.S.
