Re: Discover Secured Card - Approval / Denial Data Points Thread

(1ST APPLICATION: EQ: 599 TU: 576 EX: 580)

Also forgot to mention, my first app, I went straight for the unsecured DiscoverIT and was denied and was NOT even given a counter offer for the secured DiscoverIT

I called after approval this morning to see if they could use the same credit pull to consider me for the regular unsecured card. The rep told me that when you apply for the unsecured card, it automatically considers you for ALL of their cards. So if I had made the cut for the unsecured, it would have shown as an option after submitting the app for the secured.

Re: Discover Secured Card - Approval / Denial Data Points Thread

My friend applied for the secured card and was denied due to prior relationship. They had a Discover Card that was a CO but settled the account back in 10/14. He called New Accounts and they told him they wanted to see more possitive history and they dont blacklist. He asked how long he should wait and they were vague but alluted to two years from the settlement date of 10/14.

Re: Discover Secured Card - Approval / Denial Data Points Thread

Date of Application  Feb 24, 2016
Credit profile at the time of application 583-607

Any BK on file, if so how old and was Discover IIB No

Any Charge offs paid or unpaid and how old. Multiple still reporting from 2009/2010, including 4 judgements, all paid but some have not updated to show that yet

Past history with Discover Yes, a $5k UNPAID CO from 2009, stopped reporting in 2013, only  minimal collection efforts ever took place

Approved or denied, if denied what were the reasons and did you recon. Approved!!!!!  $200 limit but I will increase asap.

Interesting note:  I applied for an IT unsecured 2 weeks prior, was declined, according to their letter, basically for my current accounts / history being too new.  Keep in mind, I have had credit since 1994, never filed BK, defaulted on everything in 2009, and a lot of that, while paid, is still reporting.  I have opened numerous new accts since Sept in trying to re-build but it's like they only saw that and nothing else.  Their decline reasons did not include the derogs, public records, etc, like every other decline letter I ever got does.  Very odd to me and gave me the motivation to apply for the secured.

I had to call CS because I realized after I submitted my app that I had a typo on my acct #. I fully expected to be routed directly to collections but my old CO never even came  up.  The rep was SO NICE!

I am still patiently waiting on my card to arrive, hopefully thtis week.  I plan to basically use it as a savings acct over the next year and eventually max out the limit. With the cash back, it's kinda like an interest bearing acct, lol.  Also plan to use the heck out of it and always PIF in hopes of a graduation to unsecured.

Re: Discover Secured Card - Approval / Denial Data Points Thread

Date of Application- February 2016

Credit Profile- pulled EQ 620

Any BK on File if so how old- NO

Any Charge Offs paid or unpaid- 3 charge-offs PAID 3-4 years old. 1 small collection UNPAID in dispute

Prior history with Discover- Settled charge off for around $4,000 paid 80% 3-4 years ago

Approved or Denied- Denied due to 'prior relationship with Discover'

I called in and spoke to a rep who although was very nice couldn't really answer my question as to why I was denied or how long I should wait before reapplying. He was able to access my old account which was paid 3-4 years ago and said although it shows paid on my CR there is a balance of $500 remaining and that even if I paid there was no guarantee of approval. Discover obviously has a long memory and calling in reminded me of the hit or miss customer service with their reps. I doubt I will apply for a Discover in the future but maybe this info will help someone on the fence about applying.
