I don't have a discover card, exactly for that reason: no one in UK has even heard of discover, but I would imagine they are doing it for US transactions. Eventually, the US needs to start transitioning to this superior method.
+1. Discover isn't accepted anywhere around here, period. Like in the UK, people don't even know what Discover is muchless accept it.

They already have begun transitioning, I use my emv cards at emv readers several times a week (NYC). From what I read It will be rolled out nationwide in 2015. I've never seen a place in western europe that accepted Discover.
There isn't really a national rollout. There's a liability shift in 2015 in the US that is a strong incentive for the move to EMV.

As always, "I've never seen" != "does not exist".

Your really splitting hairs. I've read the same Discover nonsense, I'm sure there's some obsure shop that takes, but if you ask probable 99 out of 100 businesses in Western Europe they've never heard of Discover and do not accept it.

True, but they've heard of Diners Club, and Discover is accepted everywhere Diners Club is accepted. It even has Diners Club logo on the back.

I am using Discover everytime when in Europe. Acceptance got much better in the past 2 years. My mission is even without the Diners Club logo simply swipe the card and see how it goes. To my and vendor surprise the Discover card got processed many times. So if you want to use it just swipe it but have a MC or VI ready as backup payment. Some merchants which deal with tourism even place JCB and Discover logos not only Diners Club. But I love to swipe without logo to see how it goes and quite often with success
Edit: Last year during gas promo I tested the result at a gas station regarding the 5% and to my surprise the purchase qualified - no FTF and 5% - perfect! Looking forward to test other 5% when in Europe next time.

In Europe you have to use the discover card as a diners club international card. I just used it this past mayI guess it depends where you go then, but I have not seen a diners club international card in the last year I have been living in England. Possibly, with some careful research, I might be able to find a hotel somewhere that might take it.
Maybe it is more useful in other countries though.
+1
I noticed that DCI acceptance in parts of Europe has waned off from back in the day.
It has. I read an article a few months ago and they apparently stopped accepting Discover/Diner's in France a few years ago. Don't know about other countries though but yeah I don't think Discover is big in Europe.

Interesting. Thanks for the info.
Got mine in a few days ago!
The front is definitely shiny compared to the previous generation of the Discover It. The back of the card is a more darker blue than light blue. Guess it's so we could read the numbers a little bit better without having to squint our eyes, haha.
As you could see in the pics here of it, they moved the Discover logo down a bit into the card.. So in the past, you could see the nice "Discover" and "It" orange logo whenever you opened my wallet. Now all you see is a metallic blue brushed wood texture!
