Discover first statement question

Hope everyone is well.  I was recently approved for a Discover card and should receive it today or tomorrow. I received an email this morning from Discover saying that my payment due date will be the 1st of every month. They also said once I start using the card they'll send my 1st statement. Does that sound right? Dont think I've heard that before. Thanks in advance for any insight.

Re: Discover first statement question

I received my disco card one month ago. The statement end date is 3/26. So the due date would make sense to me.

One thing to note is that after talking with them.  You will not see the current period cashback. I won't see any cash back until probably tomorrow.

It is differant then with their debit cash back  which is shown as you use it.

Re: Discover first statement question

Thanks for the reply. I just found it kind of strange they're gonna send me my first statement soon as I use the card

Re: Discover first statement question

That would be odd if they sent you a statement right away. I am not sure how that works.

I believe the statement date is differant then when the payments are due.

Usually if I use my disco card, it is 2 days before the transaction is out of 'pending' then I am certain that there is at least a minnimum nuber of days before the money is due.

I don't know what the number of days after a trans is completed before a payment is required. But some more experienced then myself would have insight into that.

Re: Discover first statement question

I just read the email again and it does say when I start using the card they'll send my 1st statement. Really strange. Idk. Thanks for you're input.

Re: Discover first statement question

OP, all it means is that statement will be generated at some point, with due date of 1st.

It doesn't mean you will make one charge which will in turn result in immediate statement.

It's no different than any new account.

Re: Discover first statement question

That sounds more like it.  I guess the wording threw me off. Lol. Thank you for straightening that up for me. @Remedios

Re: Discover first statement question

You're welcome

My first statement with them generated after only 10 days (short statement period), but with no due amount till the next statement generated.

I think I used chat 5 times to make sure that $0.00 due meant $0.00 due.

That was just the first statement, everything normalizes after that first one.

Good thing about them is that it always closes on the same date with same die date.

I loathe *wandering* closing dates

Congrats on your new card!

Re: Discover first statement question

Thank you so much for the info! I'm still fairly new to CC's. I've learned quite a bit over the last few months I've been on here, but long way to go. Enjoy your day!

Re: Discover first statement question

I'm reading it as if you don't use the card they will not give your first statement (or any statement) until you start using it. After the first purchase/use, you will start getting a statement the next month.
